I'm native to the SoCal desert. It needs that rain, flash floods be damned.

note how the buildings are built with stucco on the lower walls to repel water and mudslides. over the years, ppl forget the reasons why things are done. earlier construction methods served a purpose. we may need to re-learn the old ways.

Same here! I generally don't like rain, have to mow the lawn more often & I have bad allergies, but the heat this year has been nothing short of insufferable, really need a break. Over 2 weeks straight (maybe more) of triple digit temps, and the plany I work in 10 hrs+ a day, 5 to 6 days a week is hotter inside than it is outside. Yesterday I measured 119.1°F in one of the areas I work, and there's NO circulation. I'd spend 5 to 10 minutes in that area at a time working then spend 10 minutes outside in the shade with a dlight breeze to cool off. It's been brutal this year.

Why not both?

This is weather war. As I predicted we would see destructive weather after fancy Nancy visited Formosa and trolled Winny. It sure has been brutal! My lawn is fried, and my shumard red oak trees are very stressed. I only go out in early morning or around sunset to try and avoid the heat. I’ll have to remember this in January when it’s below freezing:

Sept 11 2004...i remember it like yesterday,they called it the 1000 year flood...

Wished it Rain like that again....LOVED IT ...In SO CALI DESERT!

During the 7 hours it haild about 3 times ..enough to make the whole ground white and about inch high...it was Amazing...LOVED IT !

O an Amazing FACT...Right before the HAIL BEGAN...I was looking out in the desert and saw a flock os ..Seagulls? Seagulls ...THEY WERE OFF FROM THE OCEAN ABOUT ONLY 200 MILES ....IT WAS SO WEIRD TO SEE THEM FLYING AROUND BEFORE THE ...HAIL STARTED...DIDN'T START RAINING IT WAS PURE HAIL...

COULD HEAR IT COMING ...IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING LIKE ...MILLION BEES ....I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS...TILL THE FIRST HAIL DROPPED ON MY FOOT...THEN ALL SUDDEN ...WHAMMMMMMM...THE FLOOD GATES OPENED UP!

Mother Nature shaping our planet as she always has.

Only the folly of mankind thinks Mother Nature can be controlled. Building on flood plains, river, lake and sea sides, Earth-quake zones, hill sides, extinct volcanoes, in forests, land-fill, land reclamation, deserts, permafrost, on and on has repercussions.

We build fragile structures and machines that are just about strong enough to survive a tiny range of expected "normal" conditions, only to be horrified when a one-in-a-hundred, or one-in-a-thousand year event occurs. We pave, concrete and build over vast swathes of land, only to be surprised that thermometers record highest temperatures on 100 years, or compare old photographs as proof of irreversible climate change.

Only a short time ago (on a planetary scale) places had a covering of ice a mile high, where vineyards now produce wine. IN MY LIFETIME the population of the planet has gone from about 3 billion to nearly 8 billion. I am 62 years old.

100 years; 1000 years is a wink to Mother Nature. She has always and will always be in command. We are just but passerby's in time, our supposed achievements hubris, she shows who's boss.
