Re: Have you gone off of statins? If so, please come on in, I've some questions
...

As I mentioned in my previous post on this thread regarding statins, the following is not medical advice, and I am not a physician; these are simply personal anecdotes - just covering six, as they say. Anyway:

On a radio program almost twenty years ago, I heard the late Prof. Donald Scott (author of two books on the subject of biowarfare and how it relates to modern diseases, The Extremely Unfortunate Skull Valley Incident and The Brucellosis Triangle), mention that the supplement MSM will cure CFS. Having suffered from it for several years, I gave it a try. After the initial herx from hell due to critter die-off, I got steadily better over the next 6 months until had no symptoms whatsoever. Since then, I’ve found that extreme stress will bring on symptoms again, but my taking a course of MSM stops it cold (the little buggers never really leave you, apparently).

On another subject, the Linus Pauling protocol for removing arterial deposits has seemed to work for me, as well. Given Pauling’s discoveries, it of course uses vitamin C, along with lysine and proline. This site has info in it:

Ahhh, that must be why I got a big ole nudge from my guidance to get MSM. I've been taking that for about two years now.

Before that the COQ10 and a high dose sublingual B12 tab (methylcobalamin) whipped me right back into shape. Before that I was getting B12 shots, which is painful. I was so glad to find the high dose B12, and the person who told me it was just as effective as the shot, and it was. No more bruised up hips for me.

And ya know, I'm really happy you said that about MSM, because I'm having to juggle my monies in order to get everything that keeps me moving, and I was thinking about dropping the MSM. Heh, I'm not going to drop it now. I was regretting that choice anyway, and wasn't sure.

The supplements are very important to and for me. They're a big part of what makes it so I can be happy.

It's not that expensive anyway, so I'm going to reorder it next week when I place my order.

I am very excited to get the niacin and Vit C w/lysine, and to put them to work for my body....hf

And I did go ahead and just went off the statin. It's been two days without it, so I'm not sure if what I felt this morning can be attributed to it, but I did feel kinda like I was walking out of a fog, or just starting to.

I want to get my brain back to its "steel trap" nature, and I really want more of my muscle structure back.

Happy day to you, lovey....flower

Thank you so much! Glad to hear that you have a second witness to the MSM - it worked wonders for me.

You know, in all my time here, I’ve never had anyone respond to the information I provided as kindly and nicely as you have... I’ve always tried to be of help where I could, but it usually seems to fall on deaf ears, judging from the responses I get - or more properly, don’t get. You made me very happy by both your responses, and I greatly appreciate it! Will keep you in my prayers.

Best of health to you!

Best of health to you, and to all of us....hf

And thank you for keeping me in your prayers. I swear, those of you praying and intending for my good health have so lifted me up!

I do feel youse guyses who are lovin' on me this way, and I appreciate it so much....it's part of what is keeping me keeping on down the road of life!

Heh, my vision just skewed, and I saw all the kind energies around me....youse guyses are the ones who sent them to me. They are always with me now.

I've had people reach out to me in PM asking me how they might help....there are so many kind people here.

I do love-love all of youse guyses for all you have done for me....know this, okay?

Many people with statins have pain like your feet. If you have any issues with pain and it causes insomnia then perhaps your doctor might say your insomnia is more important. At least connect your sleep doctor with your cardio.

I'm sleeping okay now that I'm retired....heh, I can sleep whenever I want, and knowing an alarm isn't going to go off is helpful, too. I'm tellin' ya, I would always wake up a few minutes to an hour before the alarm would go off, I was never sleeping all the way deeply I don't think, anticipating the work day ahead of me.

Heh, but now most nights I eat the cannabis edibles I make, and I sleep the sleep of the dead!

Sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night, and I'll just get up and make myself a cup of coffee, tool around GLP for a bit, watch a program on Hulu, or play a game on my phone, and then I go right back to sleep. I love it!

I am very, very, VERY much enjoying being retired!....flower

I get almost all my supps from Vitacost, otherwise it's from Sprouts. Good prices, and quality products....and some crazy great sales on the regular.

I'm going to need to get more probiotics soon, but it's so hot I know I can't order them online. The heat will destroy the live cultures.

I could go to Las Cruces to Sprouts, but that's an expensive drive at 140 miles round trip, what with gas at the price it is....$90 for a bottle of probiotics, lawdy.

I dunno, but I'm going to have to figure it out, because I love taking a probiotic every morning.

Re: Have you gone off of statins? If so, please come on in, I've some questions
I just found out today that one of the side effects of taking statins is muscle mass loss....heh, and I have been wondering for over a half a year why my muscle mass has significantly reduced.

Now, my cardio PA - a lovely lady - has told me I'll be on statins the rest of my life, that I could possibly get off of the BP med, but not the statin.

Now that I have a good idea of why I've had this muscle loss, I'm going off of it....fuck me, it's making me physically weak, and I can't have that.

And I don't doubt it's due to the statins, because looking back I can certainly see the correlational between beginning the statin, and the onset of the muscle loss.

Lawdy, and my simvastatin dose was recently increased, too....gaah

I made an appt today to see my cardio PA about going off of it, but I know a bit of a fight is going to happen. She and I have already discussed it. She's insistent I'm going to be on it the rest of my life. I'm hoping youse guyses can give me some answers, and I can avoid a confrontation with her.

So, my questions are--

Is this a drug I should cut back on slowly, over time? Or can I just stop it cold turkey?

I don't want to throw my body into any kind of a crisis.

If you've taken statins, has it reduced your muscle mass?

If you went off the statins, were you able to rebuild the muscles?.....it's not a permanent thing, right?

And please don't rip me a new asshole for even starting to take it. I was told to take them for a long time, but refused, until I had a massive heart attack, and then I coalesced. The heart attack scared the pee welling hell right outta me.

Also so you know, I did recently have a full and complete cardio workup done, including being in the cath lab. My heart is good to go. I have only one tiny artery that is 50% occluded, the stent that was put in with the heart attack is in perfect condition, and all the rest of my arteries are open and running freely.

BECAUSE my last blood test showed my cholesterol had risen, I'm questioning exactly what roll cholesterol has in clogging arteries....heh, it sure seems to me that they'd be in a lot worse shape than they are, given my cholesterol increase was shocking enough to raise the dose, eh?

Thank you for any responses....and yes, I know when a post is genuine or not, so don't no one have a concern about that, okay?

Although doctors are brainwashed by big Pharma to dispense statins like candy, they are ONLY to be used for extreme cases, such as when you had your heart attack. Now that you’ve stabilized your cholesterol, statins are only going to cause you to experience all manner of health problems. Have you been supplementing with Coenzyme Q-10? Many cardiologists have said it’s medical malpractice for a doctor to prescribe a statin without a CoQ10 supplement.

You have quit smoking, you’re exercising, you’re eating healthy, you’re lean, and you have your cholesterol under control.

THERE IS NO MEDICAL REASON FOR YOU TO CONTINUE TO BE ON A STATIN.

It will only harm you now.

Likewise with blood pressure pills.

Take HALF the dosage and monitor your blood pressure. Only take a small dosage IF NEEDED. You do NOT need to take it daily. You are past that requirement.

Years ago I got a recipe for statins because of high cholesterol. I threw it away for already reading about bad effects.
Yet still smoking, I wonder if I shouldn't have taken them?
Even the stress to see a doctor raises my cholestorol!

Don't eat much meat so more eggs. Bad for cholestorol level!
Eggs mean farmers...bad for the environment!

Bad bad bad!

But a heart attack is really bad. I hope you will find a way to do or use what is needed to feel better OP...

The standard medical advice is for everyone to take statins and reduce salt intake. both are bullshit.
about 5% of people are possibly salt sensitive and might raise their BP a small amount. Most people ARE NOT salt sensitive and it's all bullshit.

I had a heart attack at the age of 50 and, yeah, it's a shocker and you just do what you're told initially afterwards. About 4 months later, I got a notice that my car was about to be repossessed. I was shocked, because I paid that bill like clockwork, every other paycheck. Annoyed, and assuming it was a bank issue, I went to my account to print out proof of pmt for the car loan company. And it wasn't there. I just didn't pay it. For months. And didn't realize I hadn't paid it. That freaked me the hell out.

So I went looking into all the meds they had me on. I quickly realize statins were the issue. In some people, they cause "brain fog" type problems. I quit that shit right then and there.

Your body NEEDS cholesterol. Needs it so much that your liver makes it! What causes blockages is INFLAMATION, which makes the interior of your arteries and veins to become "rough", and as cholesterol is passing through it, it gets stuck, and then starts piling up. So the key to keep it flowing nicely is to eliminate inflamation!

I also learned in my studies that salt is FINE! As long as it's not that processed crap and is natural.

Oh, and I got all my root canals yanked out. Actually had all my teeth pulled and got dentures because I came to believe the inflamation was being caused by the endless dental issues I had.

I no longer care what my cholesterol level is. These doctors don't know wtf they are doing. You want a REAL doc to help wtih heart issues: [link to www.wolfsonintegrativecardiology.com (secure)]

Yeah, that was the last straw for me with the beta blocker he put me on. I have always paid my rent on time. I got a late notice, with a late fee, because I had just forgotten to pay it one month. I called the office apologizing up one side and down the other. The manager told me when my name popped out as one late, they all just looked at each other like 'What happened there?' I explained, lol, but still had to pay the late fee.

I was searching all over my Lily Pad for my rent, and finally found it in the console of my work vehicle, all $326 of it. I was fortunate a client didn't open it up and see that money in there, because a few of them would've probably grabbed it, and I never would've known differently. It's terrible thinking back to how much that beta blocker messed me up....charlie but I HAD to take it, because heart attack.

Heh, I felt so good that first week after the heart attack and the stent was put in. I felt like I was 30 again. And then all the meds hit my body. What a nightmare, now that I'm looking back on it.

I have completely stopped the statin. Now to see if I can pull myself out of the affects of it.

I've been dealing with brain fog and forgetfulness this year. It's disturbing. My brain used to be like a steel trap. I am hoping very much to get back to that.

What are you doing having a massive heart attack with 4 cleared arteries and one only 50% blocked? was it #3?

Anyway, all heart meds suck. Wanna get off of them? Stop eating meat. In 8 months everything should be back to youth levels.

Myself my Cholesterol is around 100, bp excellent. Im over 50. I dont drink or smoke.

As for Cholesterol tests, the numbers change every few days. Get tested the day before and the day after thanksgiving see a 100 point difference. <think>

I found some calculations on my old labs and notes that may be helpful if you have access to your lab results:

HDL/Total Cholesterol
x 100 = ?
Should be 24% +

Triglyceride/HDL = ?
Should be -2

Notes to ponder:
LDL = "Low density lipoprotein" = "bad"
HDL = "High density lipoprotein" = "healthy"
VLDL = "very low density lipoprotein"

~Need to preserve HDL

~Low levels of HDL are much more predictive of heart disease than high levels of LDL

~Cholesterol is used by the body in cellular repair in cell walls and also used to make certain hormones.

~VLDL increases in response to fasting!! (Can anyone confirm this?!)

~80% of the cholesterol in our blood is generated by the liver

~Niacin is effective at reducing triglycerides but fails to reduce heart disease. Niacin increases HDL.

Just because YOU don’t believe
in the Rougarou; or the Loup Garou, don’t make you safe; No !

The Constitution is a blend of 'moral certitude' -- which is one of the reasons that criminals are determined to be rid of it and We the People must be even more determined to defend it.

Re: Have you gone off of statins? If so, please come on in, I've some questions
Are statins the reason my hair has gotten so thin, and is coming out?

I thought that was due to menopause, but I'm wondering now because I've been in menopause over a decade, but....WOW....this with my hair coincides with when I started taking the statin.

Anyone notice changes in your hair while on statins?

OMG! If I could get my hair back, that would be so awesome!.....5a

I'm sooo wanting to kick my own ass right about now....charlie

But seriously, youse guyses would have to survive a heart attack to understand why we start taking what they give us.

It's scary as hell, you do visit with your mortality, and you'll do just about anything they'll say, because of how scared you can get.

So, it's not really being fair to myself to say I want to give myself a beat down....sigh it's just fucking hard. That's all. It's been just a touch hard to get through, and try to come out the other side feeling and doing better.

My heart is in decent condition now, at least for my age group my heart is okay-fine....heh, and that's a 40% decrease in overall heart functionality....on an average, that's for ALL people in my age group.

That figure shocked me stupid in the office when she told me that....ohyeah

A couple drops of Dr. Lugol's iodine a day in a glass of water might fix any brain fog. It helped me out immensely.

I was on statins for several years until I finally learned the negative effects. The worst one is that you can develop type 2 diabetes. My brother found that out.

There is no withdrawal. You can completely stop it with no noted effects except for higher cholesterol.

The best course of action to reduce cholesterol is to eat a proper diet. One thing particularly good for it is fresh salmon once a week. Another is niacin. Also, heavy exercise and cut out the alcohol as much as you can live with. After doing all the above, I no longer have high cholesterol. Good luck.
