If we're to generalize then I think, nowadays, there is a lot of role reversal going on. The dockets of the court rooms in America reveal how seriously women have taken the commitment of marriage for many decades. An entire class of lawyers has become affluent upon the desire to negate such commitments for any and all possible whimsically legalezed breach of contract.

Personally, I think that the current state of marriage is tarnished through the purchase of a state-sanctioned license to be considered to be married, and so the joke is on everyone that has brought the state and its rampant corruption into their union that is supposed to become something that transcends the machinations of man's systems.

It could be he is trying to test the waters. Ask the question to see how it sounds coming out of his mouth and to see your reaction to it. Presented as a joke, which is should not be, and gather reation to it.

I really don't see the need for marriage any more. I have been married twice and no one inside or outside of the marriage respects what it is supposed to mean.

Once upon a time I'd see a pretty lady and look at her hand. If she was married I would move on. Seems like no one does that now. It doesn't matter if they are married now. No respect for the marriage or vows.
