I have a problem of an 18 year old going to war and a kid buying a semi auto rifle. Before you get your panties in a bunch, I was 19 and yes, I not only carried it, I used it.....lots. Most do not have the maturity to handle that kind of weapon at 18. I didn't until I went through training and still wasn't ready when I had to use it for the first time.

If politicians want war, then they should go. Or, if not them, their sons and daughters should be the first put in danger. We don't fight wars anymore to win. We fight them to see how our latest military hardware works. And for graduates of the Military Academies to get their medals, and moved up in Rank.

Or an M80 assault explosive.
