Insurance companies take $400k claims serious like a heart attack. They'll be caught. Or, the items will *luckily* show back up when the scammers think they might be getting caught. Crazy how that works.

A flashy con man who drove a stolen Land Rover and donned a decadent mink jacket pulled off a brazen $2 million identify-theft scam using the names of people in Brooklyn and Long Island, police said yesterday.

Lamor Whitehead, 27, of Teaneck, N.J., was busted Wednesday on Riverside Drive in Manhattan at the wheel of the hot SUV wearing a pimp-style red-and-white waist-length mink jacket, said Suffolk Detective Sgt. Stephen Jensen.

They charged him with 10 counts of identity theft for allegedly targeting five victims in Suffolk County for a total of $250,000.

But Whitehead is suspected of ripping off at least four more victims in Suffolk, as well as others in Brooklyn, where police believe he swindled approximately $500,000 by stealing identities and obtaining lines of credit from financial institutions.

Jensen said Whitehead’s total take will soar even higher once victims from other states are added.

“We know the potential is $2 million,” Jensen said.

“He was very, very good. He’s a high roller,” Jensen said. “He was living the high life. He’s got a couple of girlfriends.”

Whitehead “caused a lot of chaos in people’s lives” when he stole their identities. He attempted to buy Land Rovers and obtain lines of credit in their names, Jensen said.

Whitehead has prior arrests in Brooklyn for similar crimes, he said.

Whitehead, a Brooklyn pastor who once was convicted in a fraudulent auto-loan scheme, claimed to the New York Post that he had a close relationship with Abdullah’s family, whom he says are among his congregants, and that he tried to broker the surrender. According to Whitehead, Abdullah’s aunt and mom called him on Tuesday morning and asked him for advice; Whitehead said he told the family that Abdullah needed to turn himself in. The family — again, according to Whitehead’s account — agreed, but first wanted to consult Legal Aid’s offices in Manhattan. Whitehead says he then called Eric Adams, to whom he has ties, and the mayor “said he would support me in whatever had to happen for this young man to surrender. He trusted what I had put in place.” Whitehead then went to go meet the family at Legal Aid’s offices, intending to take Abdullah to the 5th Precinct and hand him over to the mayor.

Instead, before he could surrender, Abdullah was arrested outside of Legal Aid by city marshals. Legal Aid told Bloomberg that this was inappropriate and they had been in negotiations with the police over Abdullah’s surrender. “He was needlessly ambushed out front of our Manhattan Trial Office by law enforcement, denied of his opportunity to first consult with counsel,” a Legal Aid spokesperson said.
