I have a new HF 7kw Inverter gen.. It has nothing on the output side of the 460cc engine, no shaft, the case is just smooth. But on the flywheel side it's very deep like 4.5 inches. They have all the gen coils on the extra thick flywheel. The inverter is horiz. mounted above the engine. It's just open but potted components in a cast finned alum. pan. It is 7000watt run/8750 start 240v. I've used it as backup, jobsite power and as welder power. Meaning I have tested all of it's overload protections and such. On the scope the output is clean, cleaner than my armature based gens and that is a shocker for me. I don't know what the input voltage is yet but I'm guessing it's 300v DC or something in that range. The wires from the gen to inverter are not big enough for anything lower.
I keep one of those 2000watt units in my bucket truck. I mostly think of it like a heavy duty extension cord that you don't have to roll up. During the Texas freeze this little unit ran a solid week setting outside in the ice under a half sheet of plywood, never missed a beat at full load. It's a "Workhorse" from Northern Tool now about 8yrs old.

My Tesla Model 3 is currently charging to 80% capacity in my garage right now. That will give me roughly 300 miles of range. If I charge to 100%, I'll have 350+ miles of range. This happens almost daily. My gas station is in my garage. It's a 200amp service panel with the Tesla wall charger pulling 48 amps. It charges pretty quickly.

Charging while traveling is a piece of cake. It takes like 20 minutes to go from around 20% to 80% charge. There never is a line, and you can see how many chargers are open from the navigation system on the screen in the car. That costs less than $20.


People who hate on Tesla and participate in these threads have never driven a Tesla. These cars are great, and are pussy magnets.


I didn't buy this car to save the environment. I'm not a greenie, but I'm not worried about coal power or gas cars in the USA now because the technology to keep things relatively clean is very capable. Nearly all of the global warming pollution is coming from China and India. Filthy fucks.

I bought the car because it's fast as fuck, looks cool, drives itself, and because we drive it 40,000 - 50,000 miles per year, and even when gas was around $2.00 / gallon during Trump it saved us a ton of money. At this point, the car is almost paying for itself.

It's a Tik Tok video. That generator will be working hard and consuming a lot of fuel at continuous maximum power. Tesla's will have a park interlock while charging.

If it were practice to have a small generator, Tesla would have found a space and offered it as an option.

You must not be able to read very well.
The situation being discussed is charging a Tesla on the side of the road with a 2000 watt Honda Generator.

They are not at your house with 200 AMP service.

Go argue with some clouds. They are plotting against you! Shake your fist at them and vent your fury!

All generators produce AC.

These Inverter units Rectify it to DC, then Invert it back to AC.

They can produce a better controlled sine wave and frequency, which is only important if you are running high quality sound systems. (look it up)

Anything else can be fed from a normal generator just fine.

The thing that is not smart about invertor generators, is the probability of an electronic failure.
They are very prone to having electrolytic capacitors fail, and also they have a lot of MOSFETs that fail.


These things are emergency equipment. They get abused, used in harsh weather. Buying an inverter generator is ill advised in my opinion. Too many failures on these things and most people dont have the parts and the skills to repair a failed PC board full of smoldering/exploded components.
