Talk to your parents and grandparents now to hear their history
I'm working on planning my Grandmother's 90th birthday party and I called her tonight to see how she was doing.

We got into this amazing conversation about my Grandfather (Pepere) and all our memories of him. He was such a sweet Pepere and I remember when they told me he died. I was about 11 and it broke my heart.

She told me tonight that my Pepere's dad was a tailor at Grenier Field in NH and he sewed uniforms for the military. There were 4 boys in the family and all went into the military. My Pepere's oldest brother was a Marine and was killed in Saipan. My Pepere was in the Navy. His younger brother was an interpreter in Paris (she couldn't remember which military branch) and the youngest was in Korea (she also couldn't remember the branch).

It's just interesting to get the history so if you can, call your parents or grandparents and ask. Get the history before it's too late.

Truth. My grandfather was an army doctor on Saipan and Tinian. He saw his daughter (my mother) born, then didn’t see her again until she was 3. Amazing what these people endured.
