PSA About Fake Astronomy Live Stream Channel

Beware of a fake astronomy live stream channel that is rapidly gaining popularity and fooling people. They aren't showing real live views of the objects they say they are.

Thanks, Astro!

A lot of fake solar warnings are going out on the news, also. Always get the facts and ignore the hype.

Not being a RubeTuber - What do these liars get out of hoaxing a comet no one is interested in?
Can you speculate on what is their motive?

Money. Super chats is a faster way to get cash out of YouTube than ad money. Channel memberships are a steadier source of income than ad money. At least when I recorded this, it seemed that channel memberships were open for this hoax channel. If even a fraction of their 500,000 subscribers take that bait, they have a very nice steady source of income.

Re: PSA About Fake Astronomy Live Stream Channel
To be honest with you, I am so disappointed that I unfollowed the JWST You Tube channel and won't be following this any longer. Why? Because I sense a pre-arranged effort to enforce bad science and the space-time theories of Einstein, which I, and a mounting number of physicists no longer believe are real.

As someone who doesn't believe in light years or gravitational effects on "time", these images which are obviously arranged to verify the "truths" in the establishment theories presented as facts, is a highly objectionable situation. Why? Because JWST intentionally told nobody outside of its inner circle what they were first going to scan and present to the public. They were asked many times and refused to divulge the location. To me, that is an affront to the scientific community and smacks of a deliberate attempt to manipulate data and its presentation, because all you're seeing in these artistic works is just that -- a presentation of so-called reality which might not be accurate.

The article I'm posting here describes well their point of view - the point of view they teach and want us to believe is real. You see the swirling orange things in the photo, they are all suspiciously at the same angle in relation to the gravitationally superior galactic cluster in the center. How can it be that some of the galaxies are bent to reflect this mass pull and others are not? How can the more distant have the same angle as the more proximate? Why are they the same "color" in the presentation? I smell an agenda. Sure, they will say that the mass doesn't draw them, that it's the "bending of light", and all that, however those objects, if they even exist, are supposedly billions of "light-years" away from the center object. They want us to conclude that the warping of not only light but space and time itself is taking place. In my opinion, if they were going to distribute truth, they would show the raw feed and not embellish it, also they would allow this feed to be manipulated by other astronomers directly. We'll see what the future holds, unfortunately I expect them to fortify the expectations of there being milliions of not only "habitable planets" but intelligent life forms. Ultimately, the JWST's true agenda will reveal itself to suit their purposes in the biggest scam ever, as warned in the Holy Bible. This is the same group that ignores the findings of the Planck satellite in regards to the Cosmic Radiation Background that have twice presented Earth as in the center of the universe. I prefer the explanations of creationists like Jason Lisle, Danny Faulkner and Spike Psarris in regards to the nature of distant starlight and its meaning, rather than draw conclusions about our reality that for all I know could be nothing more than a CGI drawing imposed over a convex lens to create the desired effect, much like their fish-eye lens distortion images from the so-called space station. I have no reason to trust these people and lots of reasons to distrust them. You can see how many non-creationist scientists are now rejecting the space-time theory -- just in time here is JWST to the "rescue", and who can call them out on it without being labeled a conspiracy theorist?

"Mass is precisely what makes SMACS 0723 such a good target; this galaxy cluster is so massive, it warps the light of stars and galaxies located billions of light-years behind it (relative to our view from Earth). That leads to the next key feature of the JWST deep field image — gravitational lensing.
"Probably the next thing that will catch your eye are these weird, worm-shaped arcs that are sort of emanating from the center of the image," Gaudi said. "These are background galaxies that are sitting behind the foreground cluster. Once their light hits the cluster, the cluster mass bends that light and creates what's known as a gravitational lens."

This is just counting potential ad revenue; social blade under estimates my own YouTube income by an order of magnitude because it doesn't factor in channel memberships, but based on ad revenue alone this hoaxer is making enough income to live off it. I don't think this even factors in any super chats.

I don't know where he sourced his old footage from, when he was doing his planetary alignment hoax his image of Saturn was clearly over a year old based on the amount of ring tilt present. And his hoax comet video looks like footage of C/2011 L4 from back in 2013. Could be he's ripping off someone's old footage and hoping he doesn't get hit with a DMCA takedown and a lawsuit, but that's riskier than just lying to his audience.

I wonder if it's footage he recorded years ago, but he's turned heel and decided to make bank by looping playbacks of his old recorded videos while pretending it's a magic always live, always clear space cam. He's decided his integrity is worth less than what he can make by hoaxing a constant live stream on YouTube. I couldn't do that, my conscience wouldn't let me, but I'm imagining a darker version of myself, down on my luck and with a huge archive of old videos of everything from comets to asteroids to planets, and I think that yeah, it's entirely plausible a washed up amateur astronomer could resort to that. But that's all the more reason why I felt it was important to make this video calling it out as a hoax, because if this is someone from my hobby they need to be held accountable. Even if they act like they're an amateur astronomer too, I think it's important for those of us with integrity to call them out and try to alert the public to the hoax.

This hoax channel has nothing to do with real astronomy and the real data from JWST. Don't try to conflate the two. The targets JWST had been observing were publicly listed on MAST long before the images were released. I know, I looked. And when they announced which images would be released first, I took the time to image one of the galaxy clusters myself with my own scope. The image they released shows the same main galaxies my telescope saw.

They are fake. Watch the video.

I don't like what they're doing because they're lying to people. That is not comet C/2017 K2 and it is not a live view. In fact, as someone who provides real, live astronomy webcasts I have a responsibility to call others out for lying and faking theirs when I see it. Otherwise it tarnishes the reputation of amateur astronomers everywhere. He previously provided a faked view of the "planetary alignment;" the planets weren't even in the corrected order as they appeared in the sky and the view of Saturn was years old based on the tilt of the rings at the time.

Literal hoax defender with no explanation to offer for these inconsistencies with the hoax or even how it's possible to show the same "live" view of a comet 24 hours a day without any change in the background light level, clouds, and with the same clip of footage looping over and over with a fake resetting countdown timer.

I have a friend that has 120,000 subscribers and he busts his but to do it.

But you are right it is misleading, not really a "hoax" but they did start putting out a lot of these about 5 days ago. All appear to be the same.

People with a brain will realize it is the same video image over and over again.

But if you dont like it you can always start your own channel, if you want. Just like i said previously.

Not defending the channel
 Quoting: WhiskeyBunker

"Congrats to them."
Yes, you were defending them.
only stated they have a very successful channel.
 Quoting: Idiot

Yes, they are very good at suckering people. That's not something to congratulate or celebrate.
To get 500,000 subscribers you must be doing something right.
 Quoting: Idiot

You, like so many self-centered idiots this day and age, conflate popularity with "doing something right." The two are not the same at all and do not require any overlap. This channel is the perfect example of that.
I have a friend that has 120,000 subscribers and he busts his but to do it.
 Quoting: Idiot

You think streaming old footage on a loop, mislabeling it and lying to people, requires huge effort? No, it doesn't, it only requires a lack of oversight and moderation. As long as they're allowed to continue doing it, they'll continue growing. People like you value popularity even if it means lying to people and taking the easy way.
But you are right it is misleading, not really a "hoax"
 Quoting: Idiot

It's not just misleading, it's a literal hoax. That is not comet C/2017 K2. It's not live and it's not the comet. That is the very definition of a hoax channel. Stop defending it. See this?
"not really a "hoax""
This IS defending a hoax and denying that it's a hoax.
But if you dont like it you can always start your own channel, if you want. Just like i said previously.

 Quoting: Idiot

As I already told you, I already have my own channel, and unlike this one I don't take the easy way and I don't lie to my audience. This channel is damaging the credibility of people like me and scamming people.
