Silas is a variant of Silva, which means "wood", "forest" "tree".

Septuagint Psalm 95

10 “Say among the heathen, the LORD reigns from the silas [tree]"
 Quoting: The_Gardener

The name Silas is indeed a variant of Silva, which has its roots in Latin and means "wood", "forest", or "tree".

The connection to Psalm 95 in the Septuagint is fascinating, with the verse mentioning the Lord reigning from the silas, or tree.
Trees have long been associated with divinity and sacredness in many cultures and religions, so it's not surprising to see this kind of imagery in Biblical texts.

Interestingly, the use of Silas as a personal name also has Biblical origins, as it was the name of a companion of the Apostle Paul mentioned in the New Testament.

David was accepted among the Philistines until they realized he wasn't a mad man but was the king.

Just sayin'.
 Quoting: The_Gardener

In the book of 1 Samuel, David pretends to be insane in order to escape from King Achish of Gath, who was suspicious of him. By acting like a madman, David manages to convince Achish that he is harmless and is allowed to stay among the Philistines.

However, as the story progresses, David's true identity as the anointed king of Israel becomes known, and he is forced to flee from the Philistines and return to Israel. This turn of events highlights the danger and complexity of navigating political alliances and rivalries in the ancient world, as well as the importance of deception and cunning in achieving one's goals.

It's interesting to think about how David's experience might be relevant to modern-day political and diplomatic situations, where leaders must often navigate competing interests and hidden agendas in order to protect their own countries and people.

Re: The Witches thread
The March 25, 2024 Hretha full moon prenumbral lunar eclipse will be 6 degrees Simeon/Virgo with maximum at 1:12am MDT, at least in Santa Fe. You'll have to check your local eclipse tracker.

Yes, there will be some dimming of the moon but it won't be as pronounced as some total blood moons.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76687190

Here's an example of a victim of Constantinian fixed zodiac tropical astrology. Constantine determined that the sun should always be fixed in Aries at the vernal equinox even through the royal astrologers of Rome informed him that it was moving out of Aries and into Pisces even in his time. But Constantine determined that the sun wasn't supposed to move and the astrologers must be idiots.

Therefore, Constantinian fixed zodiac astrology is at epidemic levels in our era. People think the sun is supposed to always be in Aries on April. It isn't.

You'll notice that the sun didn't enter Pisces till the afternoon of March 17th this year. That's only some two and half days away from vernal equinox. This means that we are nearing the end of the solar precessional age of Pisces and around the early part of the 22nd century the sun will be in Aquarius at the vernal equinox, which will mark the solar precessional age of Aquarius, if the world makes it that far and doesn't blow itself up in thermonuclear war, which is doubtful.

But, no, the sun is exactly where it's supposed to be. The moon and planets are exactly where they're supposed to be. The solar system is doing just fine. We, on the other hand, have existential issues.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78645250

Constantine's decision to fix the zodiac signs in place, despite evidence to the contrary, led to a widespread misunderstanding of the precession of the equinoxes and the changing positions of the stars and planets over time. This has had ripple effects that we're still dealing with today, as many people continue to rely on outdated and inaccurate models of the solar system.

Re: The Witches thread
If I may make a book recommendation, I'm currently going through ibn Ezra's 11th century H-braic Astrological treatise The Beginning of Wisdom.

It's a most important little work to chronicle the understanding of the heavens in the medieval period. Much is borrowed from Ptolemy, but much comes from non-extant sources ranging from India to Baghdad. It may not be as "full" of a work as, say, the 6th century Chronicles of Jeremeel, but it is important as a source work of the understanding in the 11th century and beyond.

Much of it is familiar to me, some involves interesting theological interpretations.

I highly recommend it on your shelf as a source work. Get the leatherbound edition.

I'll read a bit before drafting off to sleep.

We little human vapors explore this fallen desert for a while and then disappear back into dust whence we were taken.

The higher powers are the only ones you need worry about if them you have offended.

I am but a baby playing in Earth's sandbox.

The Creator, however, is truly the Living Holistic One. I cannot approach that level of light. It is too great for me. Christ was on that level, but I am a very stupid man and have not attained to Wisdom.

Speaking of binding in chains, I especially liked the Anglo-Saxon metrical rendering of Psalm 149. It has its origins at least from the 7th century. It may in fact be the earliest metrical Psalter we possess.

Psalm 149

6 Gladshipes of God in throte of tha,
Gripinges of swerde in thair hende als-swa;

7 In birthes wrekes for to do,
Snibbinges in ma folk thar-to;

8 To binde thair kinges in fote-festenes
And thair worthi in iren festeles.

9 Dome writen in tham, that do thai;
Blisse this es to all his haleghs ai.

6 Gladships of God in the throat of them,
Gripings of swords in their hands also;

7 In battles wrecks for to do,
Snibbinges in my folk thereto;

8 To bind their kings in foot-fastnesses
And their worthy in iron fetters.

9 Doom written in them, that do they;
Bliss this is to all his holy always."

With the eclipse and chaos coming, it may be good too to remember Psalm 119 and the Hebrew letter which is the wand and staff of stability.

Psalm 119 ZAYIN.

49Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.

50This is my comfort in tribulation: for thy word hath enlivened me.

51The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet did I not declined from thy law.

52I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have consoled myself.

53Horror had taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law.

5Yet thy statutes were my songs in the house of my sojourn.

The solar eclipse of April 8 will have Sol/Luna in Naphtali/Pisces.

And, contrary to false rumors being spread abroad on social media, they are quite conjunct in the 20th degree of Pisces at the hour of the eclipse.

Eclipse maximum, from a Santa Fe, NM standpoint will be ... let's say 12:21 for giggles.

One thing I'm watching is this close transit between Mars/Saturn in Benjamin/Aquarius.

If you may per chance to begin seeing various strange behaviors leading up to the eclipse and afterward, I'm not trying to be alarmist, but the floodgates of hell have been opened against Babylon and your society is currently in a state of dissolution.

Now, don't be overly dismayed as these things happen. However, you may find it beneficial to take advanced notice and make suitable preparations in the eventuality of emergencies that may arise by and by.

For the eclipse you might want to have one of these vapor and smoke masks available. Just in case there should be a possible terrorist opportunity that could be taken by bad actors.

Having a go bag ready and possibly small arms at hand couldn't hurt.

I take these things out in the truck with me all the time just in case of grass fires and the like. It's just always good to be ready for things that may come up.

You can get one of these relatively cheap on something like eBay.

I agree with the attempt to pass this bit of legislation. There should be no public displays of religious promotion on federal property. Be it the ten commandments, a wiccan pentacle, a baphomet statue or other displays of religious iconography.

Whether you're a Christian or a (gasp) devil worshipper, you should not want the government within any distance of your beliefs.

Overall, your use of this passage suggests a belief that Trump is engaged in a cosmic struggle against evil, and that God is on his side in this battle.

I vehemently disagree.

President Trump and his supporters alleged that widespread fraud occurred and that the election was stolen from him.

Regardless of its veracity, the trumpeting of the belief that the election was stolen has been damaging to American democracy, as it undermines the legitimacy of democratic institutions and the will of the people. It's crucial for leaders to prioritize and defend the democratic process, rather than sow mistrust and division.

Trust in democratic institutions is vital for maintaining a healthy and functioning society. When leaders, especially those with significant influence like a former President, promote conspiracy theories and undermine the results of an election, it can cause citizens to lose faith in the democratic process and the institutions that support it.
