Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83059284 You just do engine rebuilt with oil change Worked at a engine machine shop. Had a Ford 351 come in. Crusty old geezer thought oil changes were a scam. Never changed the oil in his new car, just topped it up. The valve covers weighed 20lbs. each. Solid congealed oil. The Oil pan was 50lbs. You could read the main bearing casting # in the plasticized mess. Amazingly he got away with it for almost 5 years. . "Don't do anything that affects anything. Unless it turns out you were supposed to do it, in which case for the love of God. Don't not do it!" |

How many inches thick did you make the slab to attach to? Is 3.5 enough, or do I need to go for 6 inches? Mine was 4" of 3500lb fiber reinforced concrete. I've beat on it for 20 years and I have scary cracks around the post you see on the right. If you have the budget, go for 6 and sleep very well knowing it'll handle anything. Or, dig deeper where the lift is going to be and pour 3 foot footers for the columns and finish the rest at 3.5". |

GOD User ID: 80330863 United States 07/09/2022 08:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Your hoist looks exactly like the one laying in my yard. How many inches thick did you make the slab to attach to? Is 3.5 enough, or do I need to go for 6 inches? 3.5 is really bone minimum or under. Most call for 4-5" minimum. I cut out part of my garage floor, drilled several holes sideways into the existing slab, installed rebar 10" in and 10" out. This was to tie the pour to the existing slab. Then poured 8" thick high strength to fill with steel reinforcement screen 1.5" from bottom. Easily passed inspection for lift footing/base in this county. 10,000lb top bar lift. In any case, if you use an existing slab, Unless you KNOW what concrete was used, you would need to do a rebound resiliometer test to determine if it is strong enough. On top of that, you have to make absolutely sure that there are absolutely no voids under the slab. Voids can really be dangerous down the line. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80320766 Make sure you put at least a gallon of gas in the wet vac first for easy cleaning when your well done . Nice explosion hazard, there. On this boat the tongue weight was very light so I knew the trailer tires were approximately at the center of the boat's lateral CG. I simply got the arms in position and put the trailer wheels dead center with the columns. Nice and steady. |
