Sadly, when faced with that moment of truth, most people mentally reject the new information and will ignorantly and blindly maintain their existing beliefs.

Ignorant, small-Minded people will choose to alter their perception of reality to match their beliefs. Whereas, logical, thinking people will alter their beliefs to match reality.

She didn’t have an epiphany or an “Ah-HA” moment.

She had a moment of cognitive dissonance, and you can best believe when you next see her, she will have convinced herself you’re just a conspiracy theorist lunatic.

Sad, really….. but that’s how most people are.

I said this to her day one hour one of the retreat. It did not phase her seemingly at all as she did what she does and that is to be that lady that knows it all and thinks it her prerogative to direct others speech, actions and beliefs.

Talk about right over the target - this person gets it!

I would only point out rejecting the new information is usually not a conscious decision - but subconscious (they don't even realize they're doing it or why).
This can be overcome if they're given enough information, and often enough, to support the new perspective.
It's kind of like deprogramming. IN fact - it's exactly like deprogramming.
It takes time.

I think she was well aware acutely but copes by being obtuse... I think she just cannot (ego and self preservation) allow herself to drop her persona.

I said what I said to her because she expects me as a Rev. and like most Christians (some lukewarm) she expects to be listened to in a genuine way but also tries to command others to pay attention to her and accept she is in control
and there is nothing that she is not seemingly and expert on.

If you do not take her advice or suggestions she will employ "I am disappointing and that should cause you concern that I do not approve of your not doing as I think or say" attitude.

Passive aggressive - It is all so tiresome.

She is wise in her own conceit. It is not my call to think in terms of deprogramming, but that is a good way of thinking of it. She will not at least at this point and as far as I can tell let go fully but she does come to us to do some work towards the the renewing of her mind. I am happy to nurture it.

What I did is to arrest her hypocrisy (snap the cognitive disconnect ) and let her know she cannot baffle me with her bullshite or dazzle me with her fancy footwork.

There are so many like this in this day and age, I can find the grace to accept them where they are at and as I am not perfect, in my short comings I am not banking on the reciprocation of such grace from some one like them unless they intended to use it like an I owe them something for not backbiting on me for just that one thing what ever it might be at the moment.

She is in need as are many and love is loving so I strive to continue to love even though the flesh is frustrating.

This lady asked me to send to her pictures I took of a young buck (deer) that was doing some brisk evening munching on our property maybe 30 meters from us. I emailed them to her, all she wanted was my email, to be connected.

-She asked to ride in my car as we drive down from the mountain retreat to the ocean on the last night of the retreat at a time when we break silence.

- She asked if she could ride in my car on the way back from the island to the mainland. She passed up a ride with the other women in a new Lexus. I did not driver her there. She jumped ship really.

- She wanted to be around me semi sequestered with her as we made the ferry sailing.

- She sent me an email asking if she had left her phone charger in my car, and then had to email me again to let me know she found it.

Not enough people in her life are real with her, it is what she needs and truly desires but surrounds her self with people that will group think and speak where she can laud and feign affection on those who do the progressive goose step well and sink her teeth into the weak among those whom fail to tow the party line.

I can tell she is not happy playing the game and she knows I know it.

.Shot in the dark here from your very effective description of the type of individual you're dealing with;

She likely attained her societal position / notoriety by dawning a facade of competency (feign it till you make it) and believes it's still a facade to be maintained. In this there's some merit as I can tell you from experience that from the top, if you are to lead (worldly - not necessarily spiritually), you must put forth the image of always having it together, always having the answers, and never allowing any dings in your armor to show.

This facade grows heavy with time, and people yearn to be seen and accepted for who they are, imperfections and all. But insecurities may often become deep seated behind this veil and facade because they never reach the surface to be dealt with.
Letting the facade down entails risk in the vulnerability of exposing weaknesses and insecurities.

In that you did not waiver, or in something else you did or didn't do, she's seen in you something she can connect with.
Now she is feeling you out to discern if it will be safe for her to let her guard down.
If it is this, and she does - tread lightly as you can do real damage to someone who's let their guard down with you. But if handled with genuine Godly reverence - you may just ultimately find in her one of your best allies and confidants.

Alternatively, she could be a controlling manipulative damaged individual (from past experiences resulting in deep seated insecurities and other maladies) hell bent on conquering, con-questing, and controlling everyone and everything she comes in contact with.
When you didn't bend to her will she found you curious and a challenge to be conquered and now she's set her sights on you. In which case - RUN! Nothing good of this will come.

Guess it's up to you to figure out which she is?
