Good to know if you ever finish a floor. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75283101 Not varnish but catalyzing oil. Any oil based finish varnish, polyurethane, can self ignite. The drying process is partly due to the oils binding together, this reaction is exothermic and will ignite a clump of oily rags. I always put my used rags in a fire can. The only thing I’ve had self ignite was some epoxy rags. They were smoking pretty good and pooph up they went. Having those rags in a clump is a bad idea it won’t let the heat out. Spreading them out on a cold concrete floor works great. Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast.
