Dust Combustion in a Concert, 15 Dead 400 injured.. WARNING GRAPHIC

This happened at a "color party". Google what that means.

It was not dust what caught fire, but paint in powder form.

Its that UV reactive powder they like to spray at concerts/rave/parties.....they spay and light up the people with black light for that trippy psychedelic effect.....its colored cornstarch.....any fine particulates are fire/explosion hazards....

They were spraying different colors of some substance to interact with the lights. You can see the cartoon guy with some type of sprayer

Look up grain silo explosions.....any fine powder can be explosive/flammable .....

At one time there were grain silos that would explode-same

for coal mines- those are mostly prevented now with understanding

of the cause . . .

High concentrations of most dust can be flammable, the concentrations required for ignition depend based on substances.

Wood dust is obviously very flammable, but even sugar dust can be flammable. In this case it looked like the dust was colored (the animation showed that) and if that’s the case, there would have been coloring (probably paint) with the dust making it more flammable.

Side note: breathing that dust in is NOT good for anyone. Especially if there is silica in the dust. That’s just one night, imagine someone who goes to many raves and breathes this stuff in many times in a year. That’s not good exposure.

it's well researched that corn starch is proven carcinogenic.
it was used long ago in surgeries to stop bleeding but resulted in deep infections and cancer.

Something seemingly off topic but kind of related, which I learned from a painter, is that varnish rags that are contained in a plastic bag, and left over night, can, and do spontaneously combust. Good to know if you ever finish a floor.
