Or just switch to Brandy?

some wine has tobacco notes. old socks? earthy notes? or oaky?

have you actually tasted old socks? doubt it.

don't care for chardonnay because i find most of them to be way too oakey. some people love the taste though.

seems likely you are drinking red wine and maybe it's nkt good or maybe it just has flavours you don't like. not everyone likes the same wine or the same flavour notes in wine.

some ppl just like sweet wine.

complex wines are not everyone's cuppa and that's okay.

me? i'd rather have no wine than have simple tasting wine, whether sweet or dry ... oaky ... fruity...whatever.

afaik you cannot get money back for not liking the notes in wihe, but if it tastes like vinegar you probably can.

I prefer a Pinor Griz over a Chard and a Pinor Noir over a Cab Sav. How on Earth my Mother could consume Merlot, I will never understand.

many celebrated french wines taste that way - they call it "old world" wine, more like old socks and ashtrays

Sometimes the stock can sit outside in the sun during transport.

my favourite type of red has to be a really good margaux, it's probably my favourite. some whites or rosé are nice in warm weather.

people like different kinds of wine and peoples tastebuds differ, too.

I just prefer a wine, red or white that I can drink and cook with at the same time and not feel guilty about doing either.

Re: When the Wine smells like tobacco and tastes like old socks, do I try to get my money back?
pinot noir is known to potentially have old socks as a flavour descriptor.
dont drink pinot if you dont like it.
pinot is a pretty weird kind of red wine anyway, thin body, unripe flavours often.
can be grown in a cold climate, champagne is probably the best use for that variety of grape.
