91% to 99% alcohol will do it. It would have to be combined with gasoline

This actually works. I use 99% alcohol and add it to my tank when I fill up.

It will increase octane, it will increase power if and only if you were knocking and retarding timing to begin with. But you will need to use more of it to accomplish that due to les BTU’s of alcohol and a richer stoichiometric AFR meaning your gas mileage will go down significantly.

So FAIL if you are trying to save on gas mileage it does the opposite.

Only people i know that use e85 are tuners boosting the shit out of civics/miatas to the point that they half expect them to blow up

And they have to use larger fuel pumps and fuel injectors as E85 contains LESS Energy per gallon than gasoline. The power gains they get come from the cooling effect of putting so much fuel into the engine. The cooling effect allows more turbo boost before knocking occurs.

You have been brainwashed by the oil companies. Pour 91% alcohol in your lawn mower. It will run fine. Who cares about how smooth the car runs as long as it makes it from point A to B it beats spending $10 a gallon in gasoline.

It’s only more power if the engine was experiencing pre ignition using a fuel with a lower octane railing. Higher octane fuel actually has less of a flash point. It’s only going to make a difference in an engine that can recognize preignition and adjust timing.

Alcohol is a completely different story because you also need the fuel tables to fire the injectors to accomplish the proper air fuel ratio as well as ignition timing. A new vehicle will recognize say e-85 and make all the required adjustments for optimal efficiency.

No vehicle will recognize a bottle of isopropyl alcohol in a tank of gas and process it as gasoline. It will increase your octane less than one tenth of a percent, but also decreases performance due to the fact that you will be running a fuel table with a stoichiometric afr for gasoline. Meaning it will run lean and inviting preignition that will take away any of the minuscule advantages of the octane increase.

If someone has an engine with 13:1 compression ratio, it needs high octane. A 9:1 cr engine doesn't need high octane and will make less power on premium gas.

Make more torque and you'll get more mpg, with the correct fuel.

It'll eat through injectors and hoses using rubbing alcohol, not to mention that you run the risk of detonation due to the map not being refined for the fuel being used.

There is significantly less BTUs available with the same volume pure alcohol compared to gasoline.
