I've found lately that my mind and conversations have been increasingly on the topic of death.

I'll be going about my day and these thoughts sneak up on me. I don't feel terribly depressed or defeated. I just feel it's close.

For some reason, when I have that thought, it doesn't really worry me. I identify it, acknowledge it, and carry on. It goes away and comes back and so on.

I certainly am in no rush for it, but I'm not feeling the typical dread that I used to get when thinking about it. It's like maybe I've accepted it's coming.

I don't really know how to explain this properly. Let's discuss it.

Please?

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Yeah, some people that I went to school with and ran around with have died in the last few years. It seems like that is when I start thinking that I am getting up there in age, and when will my time be.

I actually bought an urn about 6 months ago. We had to get one for the FIL so I told MrsGasMan that I might as well get one for me too.

Once you hit 50 and peeps start dying around you it definitely makes you think about it and getting your ducks in order.

I've had more than one near death experience. Death doesn't scare me, I just don't want these last years or decades to be more of a pain in the ass

I know what you mean. I've been having the feeling too for both me and my elderly parents. I haven't been conversing about it.

Historically when I thought about dying it centered around the idea of being gone vs being here.

But I'm older now, and lately, my thoughts are starting to get specific. Like who will be there at the moment?, how much pain will I have gone through and for how long?, who will struggle without my help?, etc.

Interestingly, I have been having those preparatory thoughts too. I never used to think about those things.

Death doesn't scare me.

A painfully horrible death scares me.

I just hope I go in my sleep.

yes op, I definitely can relate..

Not scared of death but feel like its so close...

The older I get the more fragile i understand life to be. especially after working a career of EMS/Fire.

Im fairly young because I started my career early but it took a toll on my body and sometimes think I will just drop dead.

I couldn't figure out how to properly explain it, but part of it is that I think I may feel relieved when it happens. That's new for me. I never thought I'd feel that way. And again, it's not that I want to die. I'm not suicidal. I've just been having new ideas about the end of life.

I've experienced this lately in the form of having extremely vivid memories of the past crop up.

The strange thing about it is the level of detail. In fact I was able to uncover something and solve a major mystery in my life because of these extremely lucid memory sessions.

For those of you who have been thinking about it more than typical, what do you think causes it?

Obviously, the way the world is spiraling has a lot to do with it, but I also wonder if we're being spiritually prepared by divine means.
