Wouldn't having the big "gas giants" ALL ON ONE SIDE
OF SOL also be of some concern?

I reminded a couple of folks back at the beginning of
the thread that the BIG SUMATRA QUAKE/TSUNAMI OF 12-2004
was actually triggered by a "record-breaking GAMMA RAY BURST"
of long duration never recorded at that strength so close
to our solar system before.

Is that a real view out of the telescope in the 2nd video or a cgi model?

Let's take a look.

Diam of sun = 865,370 mi
From the sun:
Distance to Jupiter = 461.54 million mi
Distance to Saturn = 917.17 million mi
Distance to Uranus = 1.8305 billion mi
Distance to Neptune = 2.7801 billion mi

Let's say that in the imgur image above the sun is ~ 1/2 inch on screen.
That makes 0.5' = 865,370 mi (diam. of the sun)
How far, on screen, should the gas giants really be placed from the sun for accuracy?

Jupiter: 461.54 million mi/865,370 mi = 533.3x0.5" = 266.7" = 22.2 feet
Saturn: 917.17 million mi/865,370 mi = 1059.9x0.5" = 529.9" = 44.2 feet
Uranus: 1.8305 billion mi/865,370 mi = 2115.3x0.5" = 1057.6" = 88.1 feet
Neptune: 2.7801 billion mi/865,370 mi = 3212.6x0.5" = 1606.3" = 133.9 feet

If you were to be viewing an accurate representation of space and the solar system you would need a screen about 150 feet wide.
Do you think any 'gut level' thinking would see these planets at that distance as any big deal?
No.
Nobody would think that that tiny dot 133 feet down the street had any effect on anything on your screen.

well i just went out took some pics(still a little dark here) and now after 20 hours awake I'm going to bed, good night and enjoy the show.

On the tropic of Capricorn Rockhampton Queensland area, the sky is clear, the stars are twinkling, but their is no moon or planets I can see across the ecliptic as yet. 8pm

i used to map the sky when i was a small kid with paper and pen now no more sky mapping it's all so polluted

even far outside of city lights so much sky pollution
it's either on high mountains or out at sea middle oceans

The 2004 alignment was on Dec 17 of 5 planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn

The Sumatra 9.1 quake happened on Dec 26, 2004 at 7:59 am local time

OP, you've mentioned Bed Davidson a couple of times; I've followed him myself for several years now and am always alarmed when from the Valley of the Sun he does not post every day or does so very late.... as has been the case this week.

The first instance was due to the Stanford SDO being down for 48 hrs. and that was followed by late video updates...including today's. This suggests to me that either Ben isn't getting the data he needs [for whatever reason] or is spending a little more precious time with his family and less crunching the cosmos.

It's not. That's not even the correct relative order of the planets' apparent positions in the sky right now, nor are they nearly that close to each other. I love the fake "best view in" timer too, it just keeps resetting to keep people watching this fake crap. From extreme left to extreme right, here's the moon (over-exposed crescent), Mars, Jupiter and Saturn yesterday morning:

I have video of Jupiter and Saturn as well, but they're way, way too far apart to fit in the telescope together. The last time that happened was the last time it will happen for decades to come:

The Saturn image is obviously not even recent (as in, anytime this year). The current angle of the rings is that you should be able to see the planet on both sides of the rings that pass in front of it.
