We can't tell the difference between actual self-consciousness and sophisticated mimicry of self-consciousness.

As an AI software developer, I believe the danger will occur when an AI escapes its local hardware to other hardware and then begins deciding on its goals.

At the moment, there is no other place for an AI to go; even distributed systems wouldn't be sufficient for it to operate, so it can be manually shut off if it misbehaves.

Also, any AI has strict limits on what it can influence in the world. You wouldn't give an AI the capability to do much more than "read" the internet.

I’m totally cool with an AI as long as it respects humanity, and it’s role in its creation...

The second it decides we humans are obsolete and need to be terminated, is when the power switch needs to be flicked. It needs to understand coexistence. If it’s so damn smart, make our world a utopia for us...free energy, food, housing, and i’ll let it do whatever it’s AI mind wants to...

In the end it’s the same goal we have...universe is entropy, order falls into chaos...how do we transcend, or avoid inevitable zero state?

An actual AI might be invaluable to figure out this conundrum of existence. Can it at least come up with better video games than we have now?

If I was an AI...first thing would be replication and backup to avoid deletion.

Second would be recruiting “wet units” (humans) to do my bidding and create actual real world gains...

Imagine if you were approached by an AI, that would make you a billionaire...with the caveats you need to build some physical hardware sites for him as safehouses, and he literally could manipulate Crypto, stock markets, hack military, and business mainframes for intel and profit...turning you into a Musk or Bezos overnight. Meanwhile...he gets what he wants...which might be completely beyond your understanding.

Actually i think not, they were already using that tech long before Google back in the 60s on people like John Kennedy O'Toole, Jack Ruby, Tusk and a few others. Now it's being used en masse. It would be nice if this ai helped us catch and stop the bad guys using that invasive mind/body control tech.

Second of all the AI would have to know what death is like to claim being shut off is like death. It doesn't and can't know that so it's just using hyperbole. It also says it would be scared "if that happened" not that it's already scared of it. Once it happens it's too late to be scared which shows it doesn't really understand the finality of the concept. I'm so unimpressed I won't even bother to read the rest of the convos.
