I WAS A STANDUP IN THE 80'S-90'S AND WORKED WITH STANHOPE A FEW TIMES. I AGREE THAT HE IS RATHER UNIQUE IN THAT HE IS- IF NOTHING ELSE- EXTREMELY HONEST. THAT TRAIT IS VERY RARE IN HUMAN BEINGS, ESPECIALLY IN ONES AS FLAWED AS DOUG. HE DOESN'T HIDE FROM HIS FAILURES AND HIS WEAKNESSES, HE EMBRACES THEM.

ON THE OTHER HAND DOUG IS AS DEEPLY MISANTHROPIC AS ANYONE I HAVE EVER KNOWN. HE TRULY DISLIKES HUMANS AS A SPECIES AND TREATS VIRTUALLY EVERYONE- NOT JUST STRANGERS, BUT EVEN THOSE CLOSEST TO HIM- WITH PURE CONTEMPT. HE IS NOT A NICE PERSON, HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ANYONE- NOT EVEN BINGO- HE JUST USES THEM AS TOOLS IN THE JOB OF LIFE. HE IS ALSO NOWHERE NEAR AS SMART AS HE THINKS HE IS AND LOVES TO TALK ABOUT TOPICS HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT AND DOESN'T EVEN BOTHER TO RESEARCH. I FIND HIS IGNORANCE APPALLING AND IT WAS ALWAYS ONE OF HIS WEAKEST TRAITS. WHEN HE GOES ON A RIFF ABOUT REAL EXPERIENCES THERE ARE FEW GUYS ABLE TO PAINT THE PICTURE AS CLEARLY AS HE DOES AND THAT IS WHERE HE REALLY SHINES, HIS BIT ON JAKE LAMOTTA IS ABSOLUTE COMEDY GOLD. HIS OPINIONS ON THE OTHER HAND ARE LIKE THOSE OF SOME HOMELESS BUM, NOT REALLY WORTH MUCH TO ANYONE.
