Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77391584 We can't own land in UAE, Saudi, or many other countries, why should they be able to buy here? I agree with you 100%. Should be no ownership of US land by a foreign entity, whether its a person, company, or country. A long-term lease, perhaps up to 10+ years may be permissible with certain restrictions set on use (such as no export of resources like water, minerals, more) but no ownership. Also, we need to do away with dual citizenship. I personally know people that have had citizenship not just with the US but 2 other countries at the same time for a total of 3. That's just bullshit. You should only be permitted 1 country of citizenship. It doesn't mean you can't come hear for a stay, but citizenship is akin to country loyalty. HELLSYEAH TO THE OUTLAWING OF DUAL CITIZENSHIP!!! There is literally NO PURPOSE FOR IT in this day and age ESPECIALLY with how easy it is for the "special people" to just nation jump anymore. Dual citizens are compromised to one nation or the other. You either ARE.... Or you AIN'T. And in contrast, just TRY denouncing your US citizenship for another country. See if Aunt Sam doesn't make it expensive, shaming, and IMPOSSIBLE. And even if this article is 7 years old it doesn't negate the fact that countries like Saudi Arabia are using OUR SHITTT to feed THEIR cattle that they will sell to THEIR PEOPLE while BILL GATES buys up millions of acres of US farmland so he can GROW FAKE MEAT in a lab and sell it to US CITIZENS. Quoting: pool That dairy company, named Almarai, bought the farm last year and has planted thousands of acres of groundwater-guzzling alfalfa to make that hay. Saudi Arabia can’t grow its own hay anymore because those crops drained its own ancient aquifer. Reporter Nathan Halverson tells NPR’s Renee Montagne that Almarai bought about 15 square miles in the Arizona desert. “They got about 15 water wells when they purchased the property. Now, each one of those wells can pump about 1.5 billion gallons of water. It’s an incredible amount of water they’re going to be drawing up from that aquifer underground,” Halverson says. The land in question had previously been under cultivation for corn, cotton and other crops, including smaller amounts of alfalfa for hay, he tells The Salt. Halverson’s sources told him that the farm is now consuming significantly more water, since alfalfa is a particularly thirsty crop. ...we see a sign for a company from United Arab Emirates, Al Dahra, and we realize that another company has come out here and essentially replicated the exact same thing. They are growing hay. They are using the groundwater. And they are shipping it overseas — in this case, we were told, to China. User ID: 83436424 United States 07/05/2022 09:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 'In 2014, the Saudi Arabian dairy company Almarai bought a farm near Vicksburg Arizona – and with it, near unlimited access to underground aquifer water. The company wanted to grow and send alfalfa back to Saudi Arabia, where its industrial-scale herds of milk cows make Almarai the largest dairy company in the Middle East. This talk unravels the complicated geopolitics of this deal by contextualizing it as part of a longer history of desert farming exchanges between Saudi Arabia and Arizona – including Arizona farmers sent to Saudi Arabia and several Saudi royal family tours of Arizona agriculture in the 1940s. Moving away from sensational stories of 'land/water grab' accounts to Saudi agricultural investments, the talk directs our attention to the geopolitics of connection that has long linked the U.Sl. Southwest and the Middle East.' [link to news.arizona.edu (secure)] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77391584 We can't own land in UAE, Saudi, or many other countries, why should they be able to buy here? It's likely that the farm is in the middle of nowhere, and that in itself would mean few people would be aware of it. Also the land may be on flat ground, allowing for efficient use of automated irritation systems. The farm may be mostly automated. But the real problem is the water. Other areas, such as the land to the west of the Appalachian mountains have abundant rain, but it's likely that there are more people, which may result in more friction. The narrative that Muslims were dominant in the US is still being amended to include them as part of the early colonies. There is an opportunity for someone to sell them on a method of conserving water, but it would likely need to be themed on the idea of additional acreage that could grow more hay. Practically, feeding livestock alfalfa is too rich of a diet, as compared to orchard hay. But these guys are rich, and only the best for their cows, bulls, mares and stallions. “Queen Sarah, save us from the Black Dog King!” - from the play, Dissocia [link to tasaonline.org.au (secure)] "Never be anyone's French poodle." - Mr Hamilton |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 81486021 United States 11/19/2022 09:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Every single time I post the words ‘water’ and ‘Cochise County’ trying to start a thread it gets deleted Based on a law from 1980, locals were able to put an Active Management Area to a vote. It’s the first time this has ever happened in Arizona. The Douglas Basin passed its AMA but the Wilcox Basin did not. Within the Wilcox basin are Saudi Arabian farms, Riverview Cattle from Minnesota, and TriNut farm from California. Not to mention all the ‘great’ vintners from Phoenix (lol- their wines suck because there’s not enough humidity for their choices of grapes). Wells have been going dry at an every-increasing rate and the agricultural ‘superheroes’ worshipped by the communities just don’t give AF- they keep expanding, digging deeper wells (some are over 2000’ deep), and running their pivots 24/7/365. Without the AMA, there’s zero water restrictions. Free unlimited water for anyone will the deepest pockets and deepest wells. Yes that’s right- the same Board of Supervisors who are holding up the election results and we’re also personally present in Washington on Jan 6th, sold out Cochise County to Big Ag without a single care for their constituents, for all the families and retired service people who live here. My belief is the recount holdup is because of this AMA and not the repub/dem races, but we’ll see. If the AMA passed in Wilcox, there was a billion dollars lost by out of state interested and the well drillers foaming at the chops to punch down more holes for these bastards. |
