Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A warning about survival skills Some think a single book will help them when SHTF. You can have a library full that will be useless unless you practice the skills contained within them. Don't think because you read about making friction fire or tanning hides with brains you can do it. Start practicing those skills today! experience is the best teacher. Learn those wild edible plants and TRY THEM. Imagine a pilot flying after only reading about how to do it. Survival will work out about the same. I have over 40 years experience in using various skills and I still have areas I know I am weak in. It is a continuous learning curve that no one is ever complete master of. It will require co-operation with others who have skills we lack to survive. Practice + other people is the only way. Individuals in Indian tribes relied on nope as few could last long on their own. If they couldn't do it alone that tells you enough. Essential books: For Canada/boreal forests: Northern Bushcraft/ Mors Kochansky. Outdoor Survival skills - Tom Brown Jr. Petersons Field Guide to Wild Edible plants. Petersons Field Guide to Medicinal Wild plants. A wilderness first aid book/ many good titles available. Hopeless Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79031348 I have dandelions year round in the mid-Atlantic. One of the few plants available all year. I know plants out of season which allows me to dig edible roots in winter. It is very possible but you need protein too. Gen. John B Gordon and Gen.
