Forum Administrator 06/06/2022 12:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had my first dentist visit since '87 or '88 about 6 months ago... full cleaning and checkup with x-rays, gum tests - the works. She freaked when I told her how long it had been - had a hard time believing me, because I had no cavities or any other issues, and she couldn't really find anything to scrape for the cleaning. 100% bill of health - guess I'll set a follow-up appointment in 30 years or so. Had to go a few years ago to get a wisdom tooth pulled and again a year later to get a cracked molar pulled. They said my teeth were healthy and just needed a cleaning so I let them do that. Won't go back unless I have issues. |

Found out I had a cavity under an old filling that wasn’t causing any pain. Totally shocked. He showed me the x rays. The other pain was not a problem. Used tea tree oil on it. Got the cavity fixed. I found a good dentist through some friends. Glad I did or that cavity would have gotten worse and slammed me. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80266275 United States 06/06/2022 12:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I go once every 5 to 10 years. Last time i went, dentist told me 2% cant get cavities. Researched and yeah something about bacteria A killing bacteria B and no cavities. But he said those people often then get gum disease because they can think they dont need to brush as well. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 68193740 United States 06/06/2022 02:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Same here. Last I went was probably around 1996. I really could use a basic cleaning, but otherwise I think I'm fine. Never had a cavity in my life. I'm pushing 50 now. No effing way I would ever accept a root canal. Crowns either. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81728136 When I was 16 I went to the Dentist for a Routine checkup and examination after I was punched in the face by someone on the streets. Anyway, He told me that I needed a root canal and I trusted him, He ruined my Molar and didn't put a filling on the split tooth after he cut it, Scheduling a followup which I never attended due to my medical coverage expiring. And then, I couldn't pay for the Root Canal so I got put into a collections system at this young age, Forever ruining my credit and giving me no chance to get started with Credit. I have had jobs working for close to $100,000 a year, and am now in my Thirties, and still have problems with this tooth, and no credit whatsoever. Partially my fault, But man do I ever feel fucked. Always get a second opinion - that is what I failed to do, I just went blindly with what the dentist was suggesting at the time. |

To follow up more with this, I saw another dentist, an Amateur I guess, who did the crown for the split tooth that needed to be crowned as a result of the dentist failing to put a filling on the root canal, The crown was made of Gold and cost me approx 800$ to have made, Through a friends ceramics shop so this is after a Friend discount, And the crown fell off about less than 3 years later, while I was eating chedder cheese. I haven't been to a dentist, They want me to remove whats left of the tooth but then that will fuckup the rest of my teeth and jawline, So I stopped going to dentists, Stopped brushing, Hoping to god that I will be okay in the end. End of story. |
