One year at my old house not long before I moved... the shits that managed the mobile home park sprayed my whole yard and gardens and killed my edible stuff I was growing..and the pretty ground covers and all that. Lots of places are using pesticides and herbicides on fields. Quoting: HKielbasah You don't have your own yard? How about a nearby cemetary? If you go somewhere & see them yellow flower heads all over the place that pretty much means they haven't been sprayed. |

I used to grow kales & spinache, swiss chard & some other greens. The longer (bigger) they grow, the more bitter they become. Baby greens are sweeter and easier to chew. A great salad for the big leaves is raw hemp or olive oil, fresh lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, a little sea salt & a sweetener to make it edible. Mix those ingredients in a big bowl, then add the leaves, a few at a time (remove big stems first) and massage til totally moistened. The leaves get soft, turn dark green and are really good to eat right away or save for later. |

I'd feel weird about eating weeds in a cemetery, though--would the bodies leach out their preservatives from embalming? Plus I would think they would spray, since most places do, unfortunately. Probably off the beaten track somewhere, if you don't have a yard. |

Some of them mow the weeds to keep them short but some small towns have overgrown weeds & grass. I remember our dad taking us to a cemetary to collect dandelions for wine he made. A lot of public parks just mow the lawn too (never spray) the weeds. |

Went camping in the woods and used this book to identify the plants we didn't already know about. I was surprised at the plants I did find. I also have this app on my phone that you take a picture of the plants and it gives you a description of the plant and uses. It's handy to study what is available in your area. Keep foraging !
