NW Florida here. Lost my beloved outdoor male cat to an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake today.

Holy Crap! Sorry to hear that. Im prob south of you..mid state on the gulf, only been here 6 months, but all Ive seen so far are black racers.

Gosh, so sorry to hear about your loss. People don't look at Florida as a place with poisonous snakes, but they're here.

When I was a kid, and had just moved here from Texas, my sister and I walked by a tree and heard rattling noises, and looked in the tree and saw a nest of baby rattlers, ugh, so dangerous.

He died a warriors death, he died fighting. I just put snake away around 2 of my 6 acres, we keep killing copperhead babies. Have to put it out every year or my dogs get hit.

Killed baby rattler in the garden this year.

Saw a black racer today, a yellow rat snake yesterday. Both 6ft+

Pair of black racers mating a couple weeks ago by the pump house, pretty sure it was the same female that I saw today.

Moccasin in the pond all the time, they have a damn painful bite so I eat them first.

If you want to attract them throw out a few dead rats/mice and wait. They have incredible sense of smell/taste. You can feed the good ones and take out the baddies that way. if you setup a motion sensor or camera with motion detection and go out and shoot them when it alerts you it makes things easy. That's what I do once a year or if I notice a lot of activity.

Every year the rat snakes climb the trees and keep the squirrel population down.

Snakes are cool. Moccasins and rattlers are killed on sight though.

Sorry about your cat. Florida is beautiful and deadly. We have photos of panthers and bears on the trail cameras along with the turkey and deer.

26 baby turkey from down in the valley made their way around the house this spring trailing behind the few dozen adults, we counted them with the kids, they nest on my acreage.

My cats catch gophers and keep strange cats away. I have two brothers that still hang out together as adults. They tag-team any unwelcome cats.

I'm so sorry OP. I'm a cat person myself. We have a male cat that likes going out at night and every once in a while he comes back beat the hell up. He just finished healing up from something that bit him in the ass and left a 1 inch slash on his butt ,one day he won't be quick enough and we will never see him again.

my cat also got bite by a snake in the face and almost died I made some CD and gave it to him every hour I was home or awake and by the grace of God he turned around and is fine now....I said im either guna kill him or cure him...Im glad hes still here

everyone tells me i shouldnt let him out at night....i say well....he might not be her for a long time but at least he will have a good time...keeping a male cat w his nuts still inside at night is like clipping a birds wings...he comes in with gashes all over him....racoons and possums and maybe other cats and snakes...

By the way....My cat has survived snake bites ...eye infections...and his mouth was solid puss....and I cured it all with Chlorine Dioxide....and my friends mouth Cancer....well thats still a work in progress...best $14 I evvvvver spent!!!

Are you on Virginia? We had a guy at work who accidentally ran over his child about 2 months ago. The kid ran out to see dad as he pulled up to his house and the dad didn't even know the kid was there. Heart breaking.
