And even then only if ACPI is functioning properly. Quoting: ozillator I'd be delighted to install and use Linux IF it was as easy to install as Windows and provided a simple user manual. Who has the time - or interest/skills - to sit for hours and days and weeks working stuff out and tweaking all the many glitches? Until they sort all this stuff then Linux is relegated to the Ultra Nerdy bottom shelf out back in the warehouse under the bog rolls. If you have any interest at all in maintaining your personal information security, it's well worth your time to learn the skills and technologies to make that possible. But you do you. That means shut off the power bar (strip) or unplug the computer. No lights on. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80287201 yes led on mobo or within p/s, you cannot see them from outside the case. unplug it is the only way, even then super caps/high perf batts may still enable functions like 'wake on LAN' |

Regardless of that, there are stacks of logs in your machine which register what you've been doing anyway. Wanna disable it, bring the sledgehammer. |

It's not a choice for me, my friend. I'm physically disabled. Physically and, to some extent, mentally can't do this stuff since I sustained life-changing injuries. Nor can I afford to pay someone to frack Windows out of my devices and spend time nerding their way through Linux customisation. Wish I could still do me!! |

I am as well, but each of us has their own challenges. Ubuntu has come a long way in terms of usability overall, but I can't guarantee compatibility with assistive devices, simply because I've not needed to look into it. On that score, Windows wins. They say it is for not forgetting time etc. A cell phone's battery also can't be removed that easily. Wonder why... Some of the batteries now are hardwired to the board. It's for saving the BIOS setting... No remove. It's not powering your computer...lol...people here are nuts... They get everything they want when it's powered on Very soon all OS will be in the cloud. You'll essentially be a terminal, and well, MS or whomever will OWN your data because it's on their servers Welcome to the machine. Be on your best DIVERSE behavior |

It's not in my Amazon account. I never hit the button, even though it wouldn't control the TV anyway IT SUCKS UP BATTERIES REALLY BAD. I guess it's trying to listen? It's not connected as far as I can tell. I use ethernet to connect my TV and unplug it when the tv is off, which is most of the time. |

Thanks for the Ubuntu tip, I'll look into it. I try and avoid assistive tech and keep things as simple as poss. Plus, I've never found these devices to be consistently helpful and reliable. |
