Did you know Shut Down in Windows 10 don't actually shut down your computer ?

you need to juggle with those power/UEFI settings if you want to run Linux from USB stick ... or install Linux on the same computer (side by side) ... or you need to hack the Windows 10 password etc ... it's been awhile, not 100% sure

We as consumers only see the top layer of tech, and we have no way of knowing how computers work, or operating systems like windows.

Why do you think windows is closed source, and microsoft works with nsa?

I dislike Windows. I use a combination of AlmaLinux (1:1 Binary clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux without the subscription/licensing) and Fedora 36.

Windows is definitely more secure as a whole, particularly for a regular desktop user - but due to its market share, its a massive vector for attacks.

But Windows is definitely not good for privacy, which is where Linux shines.

all i remember is the TRUE way to shut down a computer is not the shutdown button but the RESTART.

when you restart, it is a fresh start but if you were to shutdown the laptop, it is merely sleeping.

"Intel management engine". I actually only pulled up the thread to mention that. In every Intel based computer there's a secondary processor, tied into the network port (sometimes it has its own port). As long as the computer has power, the IME can't be turned off -- and has demonstrated exploits in the wild.

If you worry about any aspect of MS Windows simply stop using Windows -- there are alternatives.

I'd be delighted to install and use Linux IF it was as easy to install as Windows and provided a simple user manual.

Who has the time - or interest/skills - to sit for hours and days and weeks working stuff out and tweaking all the many glitches?

Until they sort all this stuff then Linux is relegated to the Ultra Nerdy bottom shelf out back in the warehouse under the bog rolls.
