Anonymous Coward User ID: 83449286 Ireland 05/28/2022 05:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We as consumers only see the top layer of tech, and we have no way of knowing how computers work, or operating systems like windows. Why do you think windows is closed source, and microsoft works with nsa? Why do you think microsoft virtually gives away windows, in so many places on earth, while in 1st world its expensive? There is no such thing as a free lunch. The internet and computers, and mobiles would never of came about, if they did not have other purposes. We as consumers only know about the layer of computers we see as the gui on our screens. How it works underneath, is complexity of secrecy. So many of these techs are pure garbage, just used to do what ever the controllers want, but they are throwing the public a bone, in just giving them the techs the ptb want them to have, and making you pay for it. Disgusting world we live in, but what can one do. So, op, i do not doubt computers today never really turn off. What can one do? Nothing |

I use a combination of AlmaLinux (1:1 Binary clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux without the subscription/licensing) and Fedora 36. Windows is definitely more secure as a whole, particularly for a regular desktop user - but due to its market share, its a massive vector for attacks. But Windows is definitely not good for privacy, which is where Linux shines. Some security information on Linux for the read: [link to madaidans-insecurities.github.io (secure)] To note, you can't have true privacy without security, and true security without privacy. |

And even then only if ACPI is functioning properly. Quoting: ozillator You can fix this permanently by chucking the whole thing out a ten story window then having a paving roller drive over it. How do you think they get all that data? How do you think smart tvs do? And that’s only what is admitted. Perhaps you forgot how many surveillance programs were exposed following June 6th. Most of them have been in place following 9/11 and expanded. I use camera covers, I disable all mics at the hardware level, and limit open TCP/UDP ports. All unnecessary software is eliminated. I audit my security weekly. Every device not in use is powered down. At night, I unplug my router when not in use. And that is light security. I should be using an OS like tailspin and connecting through at least 2 vpns. Anyone who thinks otherwise is FUNDAMENTALLY RETARDED. I honestly don't see whats so bad about targeted ads.I get them a lot when I've been shopping for something and sometimes I'll get an ad at an unrelated site that offers me a better deal on what I was shopping for. That's the carrot. You clearly haven't seen the stick yet. Panem Et Circenses - Until you know what it means you'll never understand politics. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81489200 what fucking liar told you that??. "Intel management engine". I actually only pulled up the thread to mention that. In every Intel based computer there's a secondary processor, tied into the network port (sometimes it has its own port). As long as the computer has power, the IME can't be turned off -- and has demonstrated exploits in the wild. Feel better now? Who has the time - or interest/skills - to sit for hours and days and weeks working stuff out and tweaking all the many glitches? Until they sort all this stuff then Linux is relegated to the Ultra Nerdy bottom shelf out back in the warehouse under the bog rolls. |
