For Windows 10/11 use the free program "Shutup10++" by "0 and 0 Software" (they write O/S utilities). It's a downloadable single executable file OOSU10. exe that puts all the Windows 10 / 11 setting in one place allowing simple control, recommended settings of various levels of lock-down with proper explanations what different settings actually achieve. For those who've been around computers for a while will have heard of "Spin-right" for the old RLL HDD's this is the company (guy) who wrote that famous old defrag program, before the terms Defrag and Scandisk was coined. |

Then when you turn back on, it copies it back in to RAM and you are up and running again. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81571943 That's why if you have problems it's far better to restart to see if it's fixed than to turn off and turn on again it's basically the hibernation file If you disable hibernation then that won't be available in power setting. You computer isn't running...lol...simply the RAM has been copied to a type of swap file, if you will, on the HD\SSD |

If you want to really shut down your computer you need to disable that function. Here's how to do it. Quoting: Jab McBoosted In the search windows type : Control Panel Select Hardware and Sound In the power options click : change what the power buttons do. At the top of the window click : change settings that are currently unavailable. This would allow to uncheck the boxes that are greyed out at the bottom of the window. Uncheck : Turn on fast startup. If the option is not there for you, that means your computer doesn't have that feature and is already turning off completely by default. Done. Now when you shutdown your computer, it will actually do it completely. Jassumkral |

But if and when I do have to shut it down, I power it off and then just pull the plug. No other foolproof way to do it. Same with any smart TV by the way. Somewhere in the fine print of the smart TVs it even says that. It's all fun & games until the Dogman stands up Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Shit! What a ride!" In times of trouble, I ask myself, "What would Sarah Conner do?" |

I'm currently managing over 75,000 devices globally and when you power off, it's off. All fast startup does is save to a hibernation file so upon boot up the session at power down can be loaded immediately into memory, creating a faster experience. This is a simplified explanation but a more detailed one can be found quickly. The "kernel" OP refers to is just a program that controls everything including communication between software and hardware. Fast startup saves the last session to ease the burden on the kernel primarily for io on hardware and drivers. No clue why OP posted this without explaining what this feature is and does. There are some beneficial reasons for disabling fast startup though most here wouldn't need to. Stupid post shouldn't be pinned. think |

NO if you unplug the power during sleep. then you have to boot from cold again, it will not resume from sleep. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78172356 United Kingdom 05/28/2022 04:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I updated to Windows 11 about 6 months ago. It's slightly faster than Windows 10, but I don't like that they removed the thumbnail previews on the folders. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82094356 Please can you help me? I also have windows 11 on my new HP laptop. I want to disable the email account login. When I set it up I was made to open an outlook account and I must type my password every time I start up the computer. I tried to disable administrator by CMD method which looked like it worked, but when I opened the computer up from shut down my damn login outlook email came on again and I had to type my email password. Every time I’m online it’s logged into my outlook account. Please does anyone know how to remove the email account from administrator? I just want to turn on my laptop without a password or being linked to an email address. Thank you. |

That means shut off the power bar (strip) or unplug the computer. No lights on. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80287201 There is still the battery in there.
