When my daughter moved from NJ to San Diego in 2010, I actually called the police station in the San Diego area, where she moved, and asked if it was legal for her to carry pepper spray. I was told "NO!" The police officer said she'd be arrested if she ever used it!

She lived and worked in NJ/NYC from 2001-2010, and we never thought of owning pepper spray. Never had a problem. We always felt safe in NYC.
