No. Police corrected their statement. They said an officer dropped his handgun at the scene and others believed it to be the shooters. Turns out he didn't have a handgun after all.. or so they say. And the grandfather was a felon so he wouldn't be able to purchase one legally.

What kind of background check was done on the shooter? Did they realize he had depression and suicidal tendencies?

Not all people with mental Health issues are violent… but some do show signs of violent tendencies which should show up in a background check.

Just because his grandpa was a felon doesn't mean shooter couldn't legally buy a long gun. Federal law states that the prohibited person must not have access to the firearm. It must be locked up at all times around grandpa. Therefore you would still be able to purchase a firearm regardless of who loves in the household. Considering this kid had a clean record there wouldn't be any red flags
