Six more people in central Uganda have tested positive for a rare strain of the deadly Ebola virus, according to the World Health Organization, just two days after the first case was reported. 17 suspected cases are also being investigated.

WHO said in an update on Thursday that 7 people have tested positive for Sudan ebolavirus, including a 24-year-old man who died earlier this week. The 6 new patients – along with 10 suspected cases – are being treated at a local hospital.

“I think we need to be cautious because we have a relatively low number of cases historically of Sudan [Ebola] virus so I think it will be difficult to predict pathogenicity, transmissibility and other manifestations,” Prof. César Muñoz-Fontela said at a WHO briefing.

Seven previous outbreaks of Sudan ebolavirus have been recorded, with four occurring in Uganda and three in Sudan. Those outbreaks showed an average mortality rate of 57%, which is high but lower when compared to Zaire, which kills about 70% on average.

Although recent outbreaks of Ebola have been effectively controlled with the ERVEBO vaccine, current evidence suggests the shot is not effective against the Sudan variant. Six vaccine candidates are in different stages of development.

Uganda last reported an outbreak of Ebola in 2019, when three people tested positive for Ebola Zaire. All of them died. The virus was imported from neighboring DR Congo, where a large outbreak was taking place.

the spread does seem to b slower than covid. with the sores, it is highly noticable so ppl are being pushed into isolating. whereas covid spread via assymptomatic ppl.

the school situations are concerning. a few of them point to MP already spreading between students. am surprised i haven't seen a public outcry yet anywhere. the list of counties with cases grows steadily. with testing concentrated at the metro cities, there is more cases of MP than being reported.

will be a while til we see children dying and blindness. then the public will wake up. note the govern inaction to stop it from spreading. points to them knowing other viruses will break out and go global quickly. hence they are readying the public to accept these sicknesses as "normal" instead of fighting to stop them. big change in how we handle outbreaks and pandemics compared to when covid started in 2020. the change in tactics speaks volumes.

Uganda said 11 people have died in the latest Ebola outbreak and at least two dozen others have been admitted to a health facility as authorities attempt to stop the disease from spreading.

Six people in hospital are confirmed to have contracted ebola, while 19 others are suspected to have caught it, the the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Twitter late Friday. A total of 58 people have been listed as contacts of the affected confirmed cases, it said.

not yet. needs to b watched due to UD's reports. we have seen a few Ebola outbreaks over the last decade. not concerning unless it jumps out of AFRICA like MP has.

note- Dengue fever and cholera are also seeing outbreaks overseas. so far the outbreaks are staying in endemic nations thou case #'s are high.

what is worrisome is how well the world govern's are keeping lids on news reports. lots is going on to cover up vax damage and also merges too,.

Globally, there have been seven earlier Ebola Sudan outbreaks, four in Uganda and three in Sudan, with the most recent in Uganda in 2012. In 2019, Uganda battled a small Ebola Zaire outbreak related to an imported case in neighboring DRC.

No approved vaccine for Sudan strain
The WHO said though ring vaccination with VSV-EBOV (Everbo, made by Merck) has been used to curb recent Ebola Zaire outbreaks, the vaccine hasn't been approved for use against other strains. It said a vaccine from Johnson & Johnson may be effective, but it hasn't been tested against Ebola Sudan.

The agency noted that the case-fatality rate of Ebola Sudan infections in past outbreaks has ranged from 41% to 100%, though early supportive treatment may reduce that rate.
