Proper Prepper Plumbing Protocols. So Your Prepping Won't Be Poor.
Things to consider.

Know where your water shutoff is. Hopefully know where it GOES. Know the size and material and if possible, the whereabouts of the pipe that feeds your place.

Even though I neither trust nor recommend sharkbite fittings, they may very well be your best option on the main pipe, PROVIDED your water meter shutoff valve doesn't fully shut off. Gluing a joint in running water is miserable. If your main pipe gets damaged, and the shutoff sucks, it might be a good time to put in a cheat-bite followed by a yard spigot and then a second shutoff closer to the house.
That way, if you have to shut off the water to the house, you will still have a yard garden spigot.

I don't like sharkbites because they rely on an o-ring and o-rings generally last only 15 years.

Moving on.

You are probably better off using the materials and techniques recommended in your area. They know what has worked in that environment and conditions. If dead badger grease is suggested, you would do well to give it serious consideration.

Moving on.

Keep a good variety of adapters, bushings, nipples, Teflon tape, PVC glue,(a GOOD can!) a spare spigot and some pipe.

Have a washing machine hose, so it can hold hands with a garden hose to give or get water from a neighbor. Try to shut off the right valves so as to not be pouring water down a bad water-well or re-pressurizing an entire city.

Further
I use PVC fittings with water hose threads on my pump in my shallow well. I can swap out pumps, move them, put a hose directly on one or take one to a different location.
Male hose fittings on the inlet and outlet of the pump, female garden hose fittings to the water well and to the expansion tank. Easy repair and maintenance and better than pipe union fittings, in my opinion.

And More

CPVC (for hot water) and PVC generally can't be glued together, reliably. But if you need to join them, convert both to threaded. Don't forget the Teflon tape.

PVC supposedly is a no-no for inside use, by some codes. But, if you happen to find yourself trying to thread PVC to a flex line for a faucet or toilet, the PVC deburring tool has a reamer on the reverse that will make those flex lines go on easily

We aren't cut out to be socialists. We are the people who couldn't be constrained by Europe. We are the malcontents, idealists, speculators, dreamers, inventors, debtors and criminals who would not be chained. We don't play well with others, we are brash, outlandish and cunning. let us do what we do best; let us be Americans.
