How to do it all... and he shows how people are living on 500 to 800 bucks a month. It's all detailed. It's called "Cheap RV Living" but it's not just RVs, it's like this fat woman who lives in her Prius, and you wonder how can she do this? He shows you how. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80257640 This guy also has an online forum, just google his name. You'll find it. Tips and tricks and all you need to know. There are a lot of people doing this. Some I've met locally here have homes up north and just came down to Florida for the winter on the cheap. Hope you aren't homeless forever, but you might find you might like saving money even after your circumstances improve. If a guy goes to that much trouble to try to live comfortably in a car, why not just make an effort to get a decent job instead? Embrace the cognitive dissonance. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 68417290 Canada 05/08/2022 11:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Been tempted to do this myself but got a very good deal on rent now in a town where people pay 1500 a month for a one bedroom apartment. My buddy wouldn't pay rent anymore and went out and bought a 8x5 utility trailer that he can sort of stand up in. He got tired of moving around for different spots to stay so he put an ad online and a farmer told him he could stay on his property for four hundred dollars a month. After my friend helped this man out there he let him stay for free because of the help and he liked him. His trailer is towed by a Prius! Seems to be happy and his expenses are very low. |

User ID: 80198348 United States 05/08/2022 11:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Jack Kerouac [link to g.co (secure)] In my twenties lived out of a white '72 VW van, was a top surfer at Malibu & a Venice Beach street musician, had some of the hottest girls on the beach come up nearby fire roads I camped on to spend the night, or parked at the beach by the Santa Monica pier. In the same period got introduced to producer Norman Whitfield who signed me at Motown Records. I used to ferry his namesake son, a recording engineer, to the best studios in Hollywood & would crash in the van outside his brother's W. Hollywood apartment near their studio Fort Knox after partying all night. That led to my engineering in Lenny Kravitz's L.A. loft studio in a downtown industrial building, he gave me use of his loft & bragged about living in his car earlier, while I slept in the van with 2 Siberian Huskies at night. Those recording sessions were for Lenny's friend Tony Lemans, who was Prince's protege at Paisley Park. In my decade in the L.A. music business only briefly had a house in Oxnard, meanwhile took Gold & Platinum musicians to recording sessions in the same van, full of 3-piece band gear: 2 amps, Orange stack, 2 horn loaded bass bins & North drum set. Used to camp on fire roads overlooking Malibu Canyon & practice guitar with a portable amp for days sometimes in-between, keeping music gear & surfboards in a Marina Del Rey storage & mostly cold showers at the beach—though there were saunas/showers in certain Malibu condos. Decades later & RVs parked all over L.A. & Pacific Coast Highway are a nightmare, dumping toilets on the beach or in sewers, etc raising ire of locals. Not a bad life to focus on goals though, ran into homeless attending local city colleges & achieving degrees, but key to being a hobo is don't be seen & "pack it out"! Staying in one place continually is stupid, though some cities are opening parking lots for same, and many states are giving free hotel rooms or income with Covid 19. For me pro surfing & music were goals—besides some family flack it actually led to these breaks, the guy that introduced me to Norman Whitfield was a Topanga Hippy pot dealer that hung out at Malibu & found me a Topanga house share when my van broke down at the beach. My influence was the Whole Earth Catalog where I read about Beatnik vagabond Kerouac & Backpacking as a sport: North Face, Jansport gear etc. though these days you have R.E.I. & Amazon for gear. Took off hitchiking as a teen & worked at racetracks in Florida & New York, riding on semi-truck horse vans between stables & a decade in the horse biz. Also Jimi Hendrix sleeping in doorways with his guitar looking for gigs in NYC was an influence, while backpacking in Hawaii on surfing trips opened me to new cultures. Wouldn't trade it for college or being housed the duration, though living in a boat in the marina or parked off Malibu Pier surfing was the creme. Just bragging because people make it out like you are an Untouchable living outcast in India. Truck drivers live out of truck stops, military obviously rough it in the bush just like bums—learn basic survival & any forest or mountain is a potential base. Quoting: pish Had a van, with a bed in back. Did laundry at laundromat, gym membership for a shower, and just ate cheap rotisserie chicken you find at supermarkets with a salad. Only downside is toilet issues...so if you can deal with that...you are golden to live the vanlife. I wonder if a the back of a full SUV Is big enough to pull this off comfortably. Lol. I am looking at moving out for the summer, just to save up enough money if anything to be able to afford a Iphone 14 Pro when they are released, along with the ridiculous $150 a month that service costs. Weather is obviously a huge factor...you cant pull this shit off when its -20 outside...but Cali, Florida, AZ, NM...sure, its totally possible. Did it 2 years in PA winter, dipping negative, and only used sleeping bags, with awesome mattress and long johns. Don't eat late or foods that make you fart, don't want to get out of bag. get a good jug with large opening and twist lid, learn to urinate laying towards your side, because you don't want to loose the body heat,it's kinda like being on deployment. |

Well, with gas prices as they are, you could easily end up spending in gas what you might have spent in rent for a 1-bedroom studio. You could just park your truck but you need that AC running in the summer and I figure if you live in your truck, you’re going to be tempted to drive it places. Like I told my ex-wife, I said: honey, I never drive faster than I can see. Besides that, it’s all in the reflexes… |

User ID: 71498518 Colombia 05/09/2022 01:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So ponder this~? We have a small 10 acre hobby farm in the rural south - gulf coast region.. It's not only impossible for us personally to secure this farm with only 2 adults. But most people are going to be in the same bad position.. We need to find someone, some couple or small family who'd like to park their RV or Tiny house in exchange for the land, water, sewer, they can buy power from Entergy.. but would discuss letting hook to the solar power grid if they're not power pigs.. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75370465 We're only a small cog in the wheel.. So why are you homeless~? You not smoking bath salts or something~? Love how you’re thinking AC. I’m in the same situation, acres of land, grow my own food, farm animals, even honey bees, and I’m well armed. It’s not going to mean diddly squat because my wife and I can’t defend this property alone. There are really just two options - build a community with your neighbors or have a plan to invite people to your farm (there will be no shortage of people begging for food and shelter once the food riots start). I chose the latter too; have privately told several people that I trust that if TSHTF that they’ll be welcome on my homestead - but they have to come early, be prepared to work and know how to handle a firearm. Anonymous Coward User ID: 82921051 United States 05/09/2022 01:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In shelters, you are concentrated with individuals who should probably be either in drug rehab or a mental institution. Not only do you have to worry about assault, or even rape, but you won't be able to map things on a logical scale. People might attack because the little voices told them you were a demon, and had to be stopped for the good of humanity. Or they might just think you look like the guy that raped them the month before. Most hopeless will refuse to stay in such places, because they are far more dangerous than being on the street, alone is. Also, they don't let you sleep. You have to leave early in the morning, not come back until evening and meet curfew, so night jobs are out. You have to be subjected to room inspections. When you're not there, the staff goes through your stuff, and anything they want/like/valuable disappears. They force you to show your paycheck and keep a HIGH percentage "for rent". This is stealing. It's a shelter. It's paid via donations and/or through the state. It's for the homeless person to get back on their feet. How are you supposed to do that when they pocket over 50% of what you earn? Not to mention diseases, lice, bed bugs and now sleeping on a cot, next to a vaxxed?! You're better off outside. And on and on... it depends, been in a few. salvation army is the pits i just left rescue mission in vegas 3 months there, i worked. but was lucky my bed was paid by a rehab facility. i was able to get late return. i did keep my valubles at work tho in backpack locked up. but yes have to leave at 7am. if not working, curfew is 4pm. most are 8 day stays, trashy folks. some extended stays, paying 180 a month, which i did last month before i left to a friends house. etended stay for a year there 180, after that its 500 a month in rescue...and chores.. still cheaper than a studio, cant find anything now in vegas under 800 amonth, and thats a slum...its insane...LA prices nearly the homeless population has gone up 45% in 1 year in vegas |
