I can be fun. But I take the Triple Crown races seriously.

And I've actually worked on a Derby winning team.

Have you?

We had a fantastic time, and our horse came back sound and didn't try to hurt anyone. It was wonderful!

Maybe stick to politics. You're better in that arena.

Seriously, you really need to get over yourself. To immediately leap to pointing a finger and eluding to the winner possibly being a doped horse when that horse is doing something horses do NATURALLY just demonstrates how truly pathetic you are at enjoying life.

There are any number of things that can cause a horse to do that....anyone who was on a "Derby winning team" would know that...it's actually quite basic knowledge....

I said, "let's hope..."

You have no idea what you're talking about at all.

Since you keep pushing, it kind of makes me doubt some of your political judgement as well.

Sad. I sort of liked your posts.

"Lets Hope" wasn't the only thing you said. You claim the behavior is dangerous and could lead to his being disqualified for the Preakness if it continues...again....you included ALL this DRAMA for something that is perfectly natural.

That is absolutely true, and if you knew anything about racing, you would know this too.

A horse's bad behavior is judged by track authorities. They do suspends horses for exactly this kind of behavior.

You have to go to a a steward's hearing, explain what you think went wrong, how you plan to stop the bad behavior, and then you set appointments to have track officials witness this horse's behavior (good or bad) going forward. They also do spot checks on their own.

Many horses have been ruled off the track for certain amounts of time for exactly this shit.

No track has to accept a rogue in their entries - no matter what race. It's a danger and a liability.

Again, you have no idea what you're talking about, or you wouldn't even contest this.

Yay, Rich Strike won!!!! Is that what you want? It was an amazing run - very Mine That Bird-ish. I mean, wow! What a fairy tale ending. I love those!!

However, I can tell you that everyone is racing is looking at this with a little side-eye, and it isn't jealousy.

Good God, I hope this colt tests clean. Racing can't take another hit.

UK viewer, first time ever seen the derby but watch greyhounds and horses over here.

Winner looked doped to hell, the aggression, the speed, absolutely mental.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82718493

Nah...it was actually bad handling by the lead pony's rider...once they got control Rich Strike was fine...
 Quoting: FeedYourHead

Nope. Watch the video above.

The outrider was trying to set up the after-race interview (which I've always hated) but Rich Strike was just a rogue.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82918939

It was the 'pony' rider's fault.

A second outrider appeared to be trying to take over and he just wouldn't allow the change, which was dumb.

Sometimes two horses simply do not like each other straight away. That was my impression watching the two.

I'll say up front I did not pay attention to this horse in the post parade, but afterwards? That was the track pony rider, should've handed Rich Strike off to the other one that came up. The pony was acting up more than the winner.

Also, that after-race behaviour would not ruffle the stewards' feathers - only if the horse got loose. Didn't one rear up and knock over a few people in the win photo a couple of years back?

It's mostly really bad behaviour in and coming out of the gate or a horse that gets loose and even then they rarely do suspends, come on. I've had horse act up in the gate and all it needed was to get more gate schooling before it could run again, no suspension.

Is everyone here hopped-up on the vax or something? All these 'oh, that was amazing!' and 'hooray for the underdog' comments, you'd think we were on FB...

That horse was not even in the damn lineup until freaking yesterday - it was by far the longest shot- and it won, and this is a 'research' (conspiritard, or used to be) forum-

HELLO, can't anyone other than my dumb ass smell what is cookin'? Or should I say, has been fully-cooked, consumed and now shit out?

Get with the program people- I hope some bigger brains than mine are digging into this thing- because the landscape around here has become dull and flavorless... I am starved for a juicy, far-reaching collusion of rich, powerful bastards to be exposed... even if the only motive is the oldest in the book: Greed.

If I wasn't painting both bathrooms today I'd already be hip-deep in this thing and likely flirting with the bane hammer.

Here it is.

Rich Strike did injure that pony fairly badly. You can see the bite marks and at the very least missing hair.

This is insane!!!

This isn't right. In all my years, I've never seen a colt act this aggressively after a race - and trust me, I've worked with a few nutjobs on the track.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82918939

Whatever, that outrider was being a dumbass. I've seen ponies switched in post parade before because one horse didn't like the other.

You cannot be around that many horses if you think those are bad bite marks, rofl. I have two off-track geldings that get turned out together who have 'play' bite marks all over, mostly the neck area. Yeah, it's rare but the pony was the one rearing up and behaving badly not the racehorse.

Also, I've come across enough more than enough exercise riders who think they're all that. The majority talk out their arse.

One of the other Outriders should have come up on his right and taken the right rein with his left hand. That would have ended it, most likely.

I understand that the jock was excited and overwhelmed, but he did absolutely nothing to stop what happened. He sat there like a dead fish. Nice race riding, but not impressed otherwise.

I get what you are saying - it's usually about if the behavior has an impact on the outcome of a race, and that's valid.

But make no mistake. If the stewards see anything like this happening on track, at any time, they will look into it. That's before, during, or after the race, or even training time on the track.

It presents a danger to others on any of the track grounds.

A lot of times outriders don't see this behavior in the mornings. The fact that it happened directly to an outrider (racing official), and on international TV, yeah, the stews have to look at it.

Personally, if I was the outrider, I would have done exactly what you said. Let go.

It was kind of an unfortunate situation where the outrider was trying to set up the jock interview for NBC.

Obviously, that didn't go well.

He should have let go, but the jock clearly didn't really have control either. The other outriders didn't really offer support like they should have.

But for that horse to continue the way he did, that's an issue.

He didn't just respond to something and back off. He moved in again and again.

I'd love to see any one of you handle this horse any differently if he was going after you. This horse is clearly skilled at this behavior. It's not new to him.

Maybe treats would have helped? cruise

Here's one thing I love about racing.

Heated debates.

It usually outs those that aren't in the industry, but proclaim extreme knowledge about the entire experience.

chuckle

There are a few on here, like OP, that have experienced knowledge of horse care (much respect,) but not track policy.

I spoke with a racing reporter that is looking at this.

I'll update.

Oh, and I'm not OXOX whatever.

I want this to turn out clean - for racing.

This is Zen (from the past). FP wouldn't have been allowed that behavior for one second at any point on the track.

We were told straight up by the Stews that if FP put one hair wrong at any point, we were in trouble.

Good thing we won the right way - like a gentleman.

I really enjoyed this press conference, lots of good back story for the trainer, jockey and owner.

What a nice day, this was the best race and setup for it I've seen in years.

Sorry VS.

It doesn't at all explain what happened at the end.

This is Zen (from the past). FP wouldn't have been allowed that behavior for one second at any point on the track.

We would have been fined up the youknowwhat!

No, I cant let that go.

You cant win by calling someone with actual facts by calling me an it.

I'm a woman, I love animals, and I've worked on the track. You clearly have not.
