I mean, you're not really deactivating the cylinder. The crankshaft still makes the piston go up and down right? So you still have the losses from reciprocating motion. How much does one save by not burning any fuel or getting any power from that cylinder then?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81887851

Its not about saving ,it is how these POS trucks can pass ROLS emission testing. Only four cylinders burning fuel , the others are diluting the mix enough to stay under limit.

No, I own car dealerships, and we have a fueling station. My driver told me Citco TERMINAL and Lakeside are out of Diesel.

50 k for a piece of crap...
 Quoting: Aborted Soul

Brother I hear you.

I spent about 75k in 2018 for a maxed out Duramax 3500.

That truck let me down so many times and left me on the side of the road it was crazy.

DPF, sensors, bad ring and pinion, driveshaft issues, on and on.

Never had something like this let me down.

I went the other way. I sold that POS to someone's little kid for about 40k and got a 2011 Cummins and a 2006 Duramax LBZ.

Both trucks are low mileage and have been trouble free.

I will not own a other new truck. No way. I also have a 97 2 door Tahoe z71, a 97 Landcruiser, and a 97 F350 7.3 SRW and they have been beyond reliable.

I hope you get yours fixed quick and you have no more issues.

I know how frustrating it is to soend hard earned money on a truck you need and it not be reliable.

Yawn

Wake me when Diesel hits it's real price of $25/gallon that is when we can finally say it is the beginning of doom.

At $30/gallon that would be SHTF.

Anything under $18/gallon for diesel is a steal

Are you retarded?

I would probably lose my business if fuel goes up that high.

Im already feeling it when filling up 5 tree tucks every couple days for about 300-400 a pop as well as my own truck.

Its already 450-500 to fill up with its auxiliary tanks in the bed.

18/gal would make it just under 2000 grand.

You surely are trolling.

I don't think they are.
You are now competing with every European for a limited amount of processed fuel.

They will pay far more than you.
By Fall all of Europe will be buying everything they can on the open market for winter.

We all have to sacrifice to fight Vlad and we are just staring to see the beginning of the rampant inflation coming.

They need to replace all that gear the lost to Afghanistan and gave away to Ukraine.

Our supply chains are going to break soon.

He probably is, but he’s actually not far off the mark. There are tons of hidden subsidies and tax breaks that keep the price of diesel and gas at reasonable levels. Without them, well, I don’t know about $18/gallon diesel, but it would be a lot more than the current price - perhaps $10-$12/gallon or so.

Exactly.

It's an idiotic method to increase mileage and frankly I can't see it improving much at all.

Another idiotic feature is the constant shutdown and restarting of the engine when you are at a stop.

someone in the industry pointed out that between spring and summer they change a component in the fuel formula for summer conditions.

they let the winter supply run out and there is often a short lag before the new stuff replaces it.

same thing in fall.

not saying this is because of that...but it happens.

premium grade also was $4.26 a gallon yesterday in Pikeville KY .. cheapeast I could find

My RX450 takes premium but I have been doing one premium and one mid grade

Not sure why it should need high octane but the book calls for it it is a hybrid with the extra horsepower and I can get 32 mpg if I drive without the lead foot
 Quoting: wvgal57

My Volt is a hybrid too, and it requires, not recommends, premium. 11:1 compression. I was being cheap and put regular in it and datalogged the PCM. The knock sensor was going nuts and it was pulling out all kinds of timing to protect itself.

Never did that again. Premium is what it wants, Premium is what it gets.

I've got a 2005 Ford Explorer, an expensive dual fuel (NG & gasoline) luxury import here. I had to have the fuel pump assembly replaced this year, that's it, even driving around the Andes mountains with some pretty demanding terrain it's still like new with just routine maintainance. I wouldn't hesitate to hop in it and drive to Argentina tomorrow.

I filled up my '03 prius the other day for $17. Should I feel guilty? I bought chicken for $1.19/lb. Should I feel guilty? I bought a brand new 30" x 36" upper shaker style kitchen cabinet for $55, should I feel guilty?

It's not about spending a lot of money for things, it's about finding the best deal for your money. If you can live with a little less comfort or a dent here and there, then you can save a bunch of cash. Otherwise it is a race to the bankruptcy court for a lot of folks who cannot control their spending.
