Big thumbs up for actually making your voices heard. Too many of us like to bitch on the internet and never do the small things necessary to get things done. I wish more people would get off their asses and make their voices heard, perhaps we wouldn't be in quite the mess we're in if they had.

Our town is trying to push a 7 story apartment complex in our residential neighborhood, and while many of the neighbors were bitching about it, only two of them went to every meeting with me to make our voices heard.

Its still being fought, though it sounds like our crooked city council has received enough payoffs to push this thing through. The commercial building that once sat there has been demolished, but to my knowledge there's still plenty of hoops to jump through before a construction permit is issued.

Why is everyone so self important?

We really need it up here in Montana!

In fact, one of the people running for Congress soon
is running on that EXACT PLATFORM..."outsiders" and
developers coming into the rural areas and just "exploding"
their specific "interests" while the local government
appears to be sitting on its hands. Her commercial on
T.V. is perfect--showing the house she grew up in (a
little blue 1-story bungalow with a pickett fence) surrounded
by million dollar MANSIONS on acres of land. What a
great visual--and your skit would really work for her.

Meanwhile, as these "rich folks" move in...all the rents
are doubling even tripling. (Our rent doubled last month
and we are on Social Security...good luck with the NEXT
incremental raise on rents for those seniors!)

Thanks for that example. I don't think I've ever seen
a better example of "getting involved" in your community
on GLP!

As one that lives not too far east of you in NC, I can say your arguments were 100% correct.

Right now, less than a mile from me, another development is going up. Until that started I hadn't realized exactly how much beautiful land was there. I couldn't believe how ugly and bare acres upon acres became bare overnight. Soon to be replaced with buildings upon buildings. There is very little beauty left, which was the reason everyone came here. It's heartbreaking to see this in an area I've lived most of my life.

It has happened where I live. There isn't much room for anything else now. So sad. The amount of beauty left is for them to require a set amount and kinds of trees to leave in parking lots. SMH.

Loudon County here....I love the acres of cornfields and cow pastures. Blount County is looking more like New Jersey every year.... farms sold for McMansion developments and stripmalls. It's great that there's economic growth here despite the plandemic, etc., but the citizens need to have a say.
