I live in a forest of ants, every kind, size and color everywhere, with some nests a big as me.
Borax did not work as well as I hoped but it did help reduce some large nests in the surrounding area of a few varieties after a few years.
I put sugared borax, traps and commercial killer in every corner of the house, on every nest and trail for years and they still kept coming in hoards so thick you could kill a dozen in every step, until I started using bleach to kill and repel them.

It also helps to wound them not kill them, that detours new ones, they also do not like vibration, like loud base music or such.

Bleach was the only thing that solved my major wasp infestation problem too. I would spray a nest with bee spray and new ones would move right back into the same spot every time until I started using a 50/50 bleach water solution in a pump up high power sprayer so you can get in the hard to reach spots do not have to get close.

Bleach is cheap, easy to get and kills bees and ants and keeps them away.
