Any bird feeders in the house? Virtue-signaling liberal neighbor sent me a link.
Woke up to a text from a neighbor with a link that explains why I should remove my bird feeder.

[link to www.webmd.com (secure)]

I was going to send a snarky response but figured Id give it some thought before I reply. I have no plans to take down my feeder, any animals that come to my yard are getting fed. Superspreader event or not. I refuse to live in fear over the perpetual sky-is-falling panic the media creates.

Just curious how some of you would respond to the text, or if you would reply at all? I have a decent relationship with my neighbor and don't want to strain it, however, I do not appreciate people making suggestions on how I should live.

How would you handle it? I'll be back to read responses but won't be around to baby sit this thread, I'm commuting to work now but interested to hear ideas on how you would handle the matter.

My feeders are locked and loaded with seed and suet waiting for my feathered friends.

I'd ignore it honestly like who are they to tell you to take down a bird feeder. I'd tell your neighbor they can go fuck themselves. Or maybe point out a bird shit on Biden the other day and he is still fine , out there spouting jibberish

Put up an eagle feeder.
That would be your neighbor’s cat on a 8 foot pole.

I'd respond to your neighbor with this quote from the article: "Christopher Sharp, a population management biologist with the Canadian Wildlife Service in Ontario, said he’s not urging people to take down their bird feeders yet but encouraged them to take precautions.

People should also clean their feeders more frequently, he told Poultry Producer, an online resource for the global poultry industry."

Ask them if they even read the article and then explain how not even the biologist in the article is recommending taking the feeders down. Ask them if they've cleaned their feeder (which is what they are recommending in this article).

I like this response.

My neighbors see into my yard because I put up a 10ft pole to hang four different feeders from. I live in suburbia.

And I don't believe the text was sent because they didn't want to talk with me about it. We just have way different schedules and rarely cross paths except on weekends.

Maybe it was a helpful suggestion, it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Fight fire with fire.

Your nosey neighbor has deemed it their responsibility to start actions to control and manage your behaviors.

Now that's a line that's been crossed and can not be erased.

So , my position would be to engage in the new set of communication standards.

" Dear Neighbor, thank-you for your concern of my actions with the birdfeeders ."

" I am pleased that we are now free to express our feeling about one anothers behaviors."

" On that note please take onboard my concern about your ( insert any action the neighbor would engage in that can be taken to the extreme point ) eg : ' I'm concerned about the level of alcohol you consume weekly and have included here a link to some horrendous health issues that drinkers can suffer from , but also the horrendous death counts from drink driving '.

Anyway I will diligently be ' My brothers keeper', and share this new level of watchfulness of you my neighbor and address all actions of yours that concern me.

Have a nice day.

Your obedient neighbor.......

My neighbors had really tall conifers much taller than their house. 2 or 3 times a week I used to have a sparrow hawk feeding in the corner of my garden which was living in those conifers. Sadly they chopped them down about 18month ago and I haven't seen it in the garden since

You are in a bit of a dilly of a pickle. How to remain diplomatic, as it is your neighbour after all, yet they see fit to lecture you. The way I see it, you have options.

1. Punch in face and knee in nuts, tell them to mind own fucking business. Then piss on lawn.
2. Take down bird feeder and agree to attend "rally for climate change" with neighbour while wearing man-dress.
3. Ignore.
4. Tell them you appreciate their concern, but you too are an animal lover and see things differently.
5. Tell them you are gonna get right on it, but never get right on it.
6. Sell house at massive profit, move to countryside, buy thousand birdfeeders with profits and maybe a few dozen cats. Wife leaves you and you wear same clothes everyday, but you have your precious birdfeeders and no one can stop you now! Write book on how you are able to talk to birds. Buy even more birdfeeders with profits from book.

What states is the bird flu in?

Federal officials today announced that avian flu has struck flocks in five more states—Massachusetts, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wyoming—expanding outbreak activity westward and to nearly half of US states.

If you want to actually do the right thing just clean the feeders out with bleach every few days. Let your neighbour know that some have become dependent on you and therefore you will be bleaching the feeder to kill any flu.

DONT take down the feeders, many species would not be here if it were not for people and organizations committing to helping these creatures out, we took their habitats; the least the human race can do is substitute their food supply. No they are saying stop that, a lot of work conservationist have done can be seriously harmed buy some twat in an office thinking of new news stories they can come up with. They have a responsibility in their position to help the world, not shit like this which can do nothing but harm nature.
How many will listen to this BS and act on it, one would be too many.

Shit like this sickens me.

After I finish work tonight I am now going to find the author and shame them on all nature sites and conservation sites then after a few days email all the links so they can read the comments. I am also going to complain to the site that’s listed the story and request fact checkers remove it, I suggest everyone else does the same.

I have a bird feeder that has been raided by a bear, stormed by squirrels, now a source of sunflower seeds for approximately 20 types of birds, next to it is platform for 2 crows, which have brought a flock of turkeys recently. Hawks pick off an occasional squirrel, and owls visit at night to hunt mice, that are after the corn I give to 9 or so deer . Occasionally I will scrape the feeders and spray with peroxide.

Re: Any bird feeders in the house? Virtue-signaling liberal neighbor sent me a link.
The Birdfeeder

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table…everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be…quite, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let’s see… our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: you child’s 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn’t speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press “one” to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than “Old Glory” are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it’s time for the government to take down the bird feeder.
