Any bird feeders in the house? Virtue-signaling liberal neighbor sent me a link. | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 18698175 United States 04/19/2022 07:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Woke up to a text from a neighbor with a link that explains why I should remove my bird feeder. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80368846 [link to www.webmd.com (secure)] I was going to send a snarky response but figured Id give it some thought before I reply. I have no plans to take down my feeder, any animals that come to my yard are getting fed. Superspreader event or not. I refuse to live in fear over the perpetual sky-is-falling panic the media creates. Just curious how some of you would respond to the text, or if you would reply at all? I have a decent relationship with my neighbor and don't want to strain it, however, I do not appreciate people making suggestions on how I should live. How would you handle it? I'll be back to read responses but won't be around to baby sit this thread, I'm commuting to work now but interested to hear ideas on how you would handle the matter. My feeders are locked and loaded with seed and suet waiting for my feathered friends. Should I chop down all my berry and cherry trees also so the birds don't congregate together to eat? Silly humans think they are in control...such silly little narcissistic things. |

The crazy people shook the trees so they didn’t land and instead fell to their deaths from exhaustion. Then, the rice crops were devoured by insects. Birds are a food of last resort. Millions starved to death under Mao, mostly generational landowners who refused to give up their land and anti communists. Starvation is a weapon of war. The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance.” —Aldous Huxley For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. Proverbs |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 81756182 United States 04/19/2022 07:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mar 30, 2022 Quoting: nutmeg What states is the bird flu in? Federal officials today announced that avian flu has struck flocks in five more states—Massachusetts, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wyoming—expanding outbreak activity westward and to nearly half of US states. [link to www.cidrap.umn.edu (secure)] Since when is the flu deadly? So birds get the flu too. Since when did the flu become "certain death"? Do you know they are MASS KILLING birds simply because they have, supposedly, "the flu"! They find ONE BIRD with the common flu and KILL THE WHOLE FLOCK!! Seems to me like we are being conditioned with this "kill em all" method to the cure for the common flu. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80352752 United States 04/19/2022 08:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I do get along well with the neighbors, but have no problem telling them no. Last year she asked if I'd remove some buckthorn in the back corner of my yard so her plants could get more light. I told her that the only cover the birds have in my yard from the hawks is that little patch of buckthorn and it won't be going anywhere soon. I then told her she might want to plant stuff that requires less light there, because once lumber prices come back to earth a 3 car garage will be built in my yard. They've known for years this garage was coming so I bet theyre loving the build back better at twice the cost agenda. So far I've decided not to respond. The birds will be fed and I won't take it further unless I get another nagging text. At that point the gloves come off. |

Maybe I should explain to you what might happen to your neighbors who have backyard chickens: Infected birds poop in your yard. Squirrels run through poop and then run through the chicken yard. Chickens catch bird flu and die a nasty death. We stopped filling our feeders and will not fill them until this bird flu is over. There is plenty of food this time of year for wild birds. Maybe you don't use eggs and could care less about chickens. But for the rest of us, especially those of us who have small flocks who are not only our source of beautiful eggs but our beloved pets who have individual personalities and names, this is and will be very disturbing until it is over. No good deed goes unpunished. |

How do YOU know there's even a single case in the US, or that the food supply isn't the target of all of this? You're playing checkers in a chess match. The food supply is definitely the target. That is why we need to act as individuals to protect our food supply. The bird flu could be a hoax. It also could be a bioweapon like covid. We might never know. The fact of the matter is that they are culling the commercial flocks for whatever reason. They are attacking our food supply. We need to protect our local food supply; whether it be farmers, ranchers, growers, or poultry raisers. Taking this attitude may hurt all of us in the long run. No good deed goes unpunished. |
