you should, as a fully functioning, capable, human being, be able to visualise or audiolise anything you wish in your mind.

you should be able to picture the entire solar system in your mind and the planets spiralling behind the sun, travelling through the universe.

you should be able to hear any song you like, musical instrument or anything that you've heard before in your mind.

you should be able to talk to yourself in any accent or language that you know.

how do these people even math without ability to talk to themselves?

being able to talk to yourself, is literally what made humans apart from animals.

I've had this conversation a few times with various people over the years and it's interesting and strange seeing how many people cannot visualize like that.

I, like you, just assumed everyone could.

College, two jobs, a business, professional licenses, 4 kids, 15 year marriage before my husband passed. About to buy a house and upgrade to a Lexus.

Strangely enough, I noticed about a decade ago that the internal monologue isn't always right, isn't always helpful, is very hard to shut up, and that it's entire job is to make up stories about what is going on in your life. You can analyze your monologue and thereby control it. This is how you can get to sleep at night when your mind keeps going over an argument or situation.

You actually aren't your monologue.

When it became news, I polled my friends and family and they all had internal monologues and were as perplexed as I was about what a lack of one would feel like.

I'm kind of mind boggled that manning would just come right out and tweet that he lacks one.

Most people have one, it wasn't until very recently we even learned that some didn't... you'd think that would give someone like manning pause before tweeting that out.

Humans didn't always have a conscience or self-awareness. It evolved. At first they thought it was God talking to them.

Maybe Manning means he has no morality. No sense of right or wrong. That he lacks the vocabulary to tell us how screwed up he is.

It's probably something we learn to do with our brain hardware in childhood, and not everyone learns it the same or as well.

Like math or a second language .. and once the brain grows and becomes less plastic, the learning is more difficult.

I think my inner monologue got a workout through rote memorization in early childhood education. Practicing rote memorization in your head, you can hear you inner voice.
