User ID: 77547432 Canada 04/14/2022 02:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Depends. People tend to buy what they are used to eating. Prepackaged junk in other words. But if I shop for 2 for a week, we can eat like Royalty for $50-$60.00 a week. Best to send the cook to shop. The cook can look at a sale item and know what to do with it. Anonymous Coward User ID: 82497108 Netherlands 04/14/2022 02:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I spend about 150-200$ a month on food. Try cutting out stupid purchases. Eat less stuff from a bag or a box. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Look for soon to expire foods that you can freeze or eat before the expiration. Don't eat out anymore. Buy more things like: Peanuts/peanut butter Bananas Potatoes Learn to cook your food instead of heating up a frozen meal. It's cheaper. |

User ID: 82793381 New Zealand 04/14/2022 02:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in New Zealand... My fortnightly food budget is $450. That's for 2 adults and one 5 year old... That does not include any discretionary food items such as takeaways, bakery or Sushi etc... I would say its around $500-650 / fortnight depending on what we are doing. Oh, and my mortgage is $870 / fortnight, rates are $125 / fortnight... power is $125 per fortnight. Basically I put $1350 into a household account which pays all utilities, rates, mortgage, insurances... then $450 into a food account. So $1800 just for bills + food fortnight MINIMUM. I do this every fortnight, even after I lost my job for refusing covid jab (2022 was terminated)... Got a new job, thank the lord. I've asked my stupid wife repeatedly to sell out house and reduce our debt, she doesn't seem to think its a problem and likes our house too much to sell. She doesn't pay a dime for the house, I pay it all, her disposable (part time income) income goes on our daughter, which I'm ok with. I just don't like having a mortgage for a +$1.2m home. User ID: 82169090 United States 04/14/2022 02:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just me. About $200 groceries and $100 if I eat out at my favorite French Restaurant 2x a month...oh and $50 for Starbucks... I just bought a 21sq ft freezer, so will be stocking up on some meats, if I can catch it on clearance or on sale. I had the old fridge from the house I bought in the garage, so hopefully, the freezer will save money. I'm in the desert, so keeping it didn't make sense. The new freezer is an Energy Star. That cost $150 more, but it said it saved about $100 a year over the normal one. We'll See. Starbucks and eating out are going bye bye. It is Time to reinstate the Austerity measures I used in the 1990s. Make everything from scratch that is possible, growing greens, tomatoes and fruits. The thermostat is set to 82 in summer and 66 in Winter. Staying home more and making a list of driving errands once or twice a week. Not carrying credit cards..I only carry cash, with me, to avoid unplanned purchases. I take off clothes I wear out and about as soon as I get home and change into a pair of sweats, which I wear a lot. I can probably get through two weeks without doing wash. I do have enough underwear for a month and two pairs of sheets, so can wait 2 weeks...and sometimes longer. I do stuff to save on water, too. In fact me and the wife eat just 1 meal and day and snack occasionally, the kids eat 3 times a day. Stuff like rice, eggs, bread, cereal, milk, etc. We don't even buy soda. Grocery prices are insane. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82833672 It's doable. I fit into that category for grocery purchases. If you add 'not essential to meals' add more to your liking. Neither of us eat fruit much, and eat potato chips and ho-made baked goods for snacks. Soulless fake humans are already AI.
