I actually don't know for sure whether we got to the moon or not, but the existence of studio footage staging it does not mean that we did not automatically. What if plan A was to go to the moon, if we didn't make, we do plan B - fake with Kubriks films to get the prestige and appear to beat the Russians.

If I was a program manager and the need to win or appear to win was strong, then I would have had both programs running.
I do not doubt that the staged footage exists and I have seen it. I just dont think that the existence of the films does not, by itself, negate an actual trip to the moon.
