They would try to hold off the smaller land mass pathways that leads to the bulk of Crimea. Then start sending in offensive units to seize the population centers. They have the best chance of taking Crimea. The annexing is still fresh, so culture is still volatile, there are many people in Crimea still sympathetic to Ukraine and very much anti-Russian, making it an easy place to take over.

Zelensky would just be doing this just because it's advice he's receiving. It's unlikely he is any mastermind in this. Just a puppet. His advice may be something such as if he can get in Crimea or even work towards disrupting Crimea - it might be enough pressure for some sort of white peace.

But, that's not what this is really about. They WANT Putin to do something against NATO. They are begging for it. They want him to even say it, so that it can be no question that it's not a 'false flag' - they've been given the appearance of pushing Putin towards a military action against NATO for years and years, just slowly, and steadily.
