If you nose around the group sizes and know where your terminals are located you can find a cheapo.

The battery they call out for my wife's car costs $159 but right next to it is a $49 one that's almost identical in size.

Soon they won't be found at any price.

Shortages on batteries and oil are beginning now.

And not like many vehicles are manual where you could roll them (Hill or push) and dump the clutch.

I recently bought a new battery that died on me and they wouldn't warranty it, i got it jump started and by the time i drove to the parts place it was charged up, so it passed their test.

I don't trust these new batteries something is going on with them, but believe me that jump box that i linked works wonders and it can also charge anything on USB and has a nice light on it.

and it won't last for shit.

batterys have gone to crap. truck and heavy equipment has gone thru 1 every year.
they used to last a good 3-5 years.

not anymore.

And once dead they can't be revived for light duty use like the older ones.
dead is dead. usually with a failed cell.

Got Rural King nearby? Better price than wally, but still inflated. They also had reconditioned batteries dirt cheap, but I haven't checked on that lately.

Parking light socket, $30. Got one for $17 on eBay.

it doesn't matter where you go. rural king, walmart, autozone, napa, exide, diehard, homedepot, batterysplus, etc...

For standard group sizes they're ALL the same battery no matter where you got it.

lead acid batterys are a fungible commodity. only the name label changes.

Yeah i think they found a way to make the spongy lead cathode degrade faster.

And normal vehicle vibration wrecks it fast maybe?

IDK. But something has clearly changed for the standard ones.

You gotta goto the optima round cell or some form of hybrid/agm/deep cycle to get a battery that still hits it's expected lifespan now.

The last time a car battery was 50 bucks was 1971.

There are people who sell "seconds" or "blem" batteries.

I bought a 650 CCA for $30 just 2 years ago for a car I was gonna sell.

Worked fine. They just don't test right within their parameters.

Voltage might be too high or not quite enough amps

They do not have any stickers on them as to what company produced them.

Judging by the colors the one I bought was prolly a Wonch.

It worked at least long enough to find a new owner

A deep cycle (DC) battery will cost less and last longer with the ability to take long periods of un-use.

It have less cranking amps, but will still be adequate.

I put in the largest ones that will fit.

I've bought two now, one for a Ranger truck, the other for a Taurus.

THEY ONLY LAST TWO YEARS AND THEN LOSE CRANKING POWER. NOT WORTH IT AT ANY PRICE.

I'm not surprised the price has gone up. For my own future use, I just bought a solar charging panel and they -like food- are already getting a little scarce.

I opted for one that lets me plug nearly any electronics directly into it for a quick charge but also has cables to connect it to a battery [for a trickle charge] or to use with an external inverter [which I also have].

But avoid those backpack/camping cheapies and expect to pay around $60+ for one you can actually rely upon.

May be a WISE investment for everyone to consider!

Yeah I have two or three dead batteries around I have been thinking of selling to the Mexicans but they will just sell it to someone else, may as well recon them myself. Hazardous waste means no one will have any electricity because electricity is hazardous. LOGICAL

Is there no place that sells reconditioned batteries? Bought mine for about $69 CDN. That was about 5 years ago! A 90 day warranty that is still going strong. My buddy bought one for his BMW. Great price and still working as well.

It's an old Chrysler van and the original battery lasted me 11 years.

Go to a salvage yard next time. When the cars come in they set the batteries aside and sell them for a lot less than new.

Yeah, just got my car fully serviced for this reason. Thinking I might put fresh battery in too, as its about 5 years old or so.
