Chinese reverse engineered parts for repair at one point caused the first plunge?

I guess Boeing can kind of tell if parts were ordered/replaced with original equipment.

pilot goes to the loo co-pilot has a stroke and falls on the controls aiming them down and the trainee doesn't know what to do pilot tries to regain control and the g force rips the tail off

The final investigation report found that the accident was the result of fatigue cracking caused by inadequate maintenance after a much earlier tailstrike incident. On 7 February 1980, the aircraft was flying from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Taoyuan International Airport via King Abdulaziz International Airport and Kai Tak International Airport as China Airlines Flight 009. While landing in Hong Kong, part of the plane's tail had scraped along the runway.[18]: 10  The aircraft was depressurized, ferried back to Taiwan on the same day, and a temporary repair done the day after.[18]: 11  A more permanent repair was conducted by a team from China Airlines from 23 May through 26 May 1980.[18]: 12 

The permanent repair of the tailstrike was not carried out in accordance with the Boeing Structural Repair Manual (SRM).[18]: 157–158  According to the SRM, repairs could be made by replacing the entire affected skin or by cutting out the damaged portion and installing a reinforcing doubler plate to restore the structural strength.[18]: 60–61  Rather than following the SRM, the China Airlines team installed a doubler over the damaged skin

Well when you go faster than the speed of sound in a plane that's not designed to withstand it, It breaks.

Zeta ETs indicated an EMP took down the plane. Now wondering if they were referring to this tail assembly.

It it possible that it detached after the pilot desperately attempted to pull it up at very high speed? I've seen that scenario in an animated reconstruction of another crash.

My ex bro in law worked AOG for Boeing. The Chinese ordered planes, tried to reverse engineer then, and couldn't get the plane back together. He spent almost a year there with the crew putting it back together...

The Chinese suck at maintenance.

Just asked my husband, he’s been flying a long time.

The tail is the weakest part of the plane, g force could rip it off in that decent. The tail is in a large piece on the ground by the pictures released today.

He said China’s pilots are very good now but their maintenance is shit. They don’t combover their airplanes the way the us does for safety.

Also, he said his first thought on the small bump in altitude before the plane hit the ground, could be someone trying to regain controls in a fight or a second guess on suicide.

He said it looks fucky and on purpose but couldn’t say that for certain.

Super hot metal will rust almost in a few hours. The break up and burns won't mean anything. Unless you have signs of a missle strike or info/voices on the boxes, we'll probably never know what happened.

And it's china so rest assured any reason given will be a flat out lie. If they give a reason at all.

If it was hot, the paint would have burned off.

If it is a shit repair, or lack thereof, then that will mean something.

It looks like composite material to me.

Alumimum corrosion is white. That is not rust.

Loosing the vertical tail and rudder would cause a yaw problem for sure but would likely not end up in a dive like that. An airplane can actually fly without a vertical stabilizer by managing left and right thrust. Banking and landing would be a problem.

You can simulate vertical trim with engine power. Rt engine @90% left at 85% could give you the same trim axis as as x degrees of rudder trim.

Loosing the horizontal stab or both is much different. Reference the KC-135 that began extreme Porpoising due to a failed rudder PCU and ripped the entire empennage off.

That is what gets me - some are torn - yet some are just gone with the hole left intact.

Same with the Kc-135 crash in Kyrgyzstan.

Too many variables, could have struck the ground at an odd angle and torn those rivets while popping the others straight thru or making the heads come off clean. Accident investigators will run the scatter diagrams, all different kinds of analysis. The black box will tell a big part of the story, if they find it and its intact. If they enabled telemetry (i.e. sending real time data to Boeing and other vendors like the engine mfg) then they will have even better data.

My old neighbor worked for a company that made highly specialized valves for jet engines. The Chinese tried for years to copy them but could never get it right. He spent a lot of time working on incident investigations where it turned out that counterfeit parts were used and caused the failure (not always a crash, sometimes a warranty issue, etc). In some cases, the maintenance staff thought they were buying genuine OEM parts but they were sent knockoffs. It was hard to detect until the parts failed.
