Uh, I'll admit I didn't go through this whole thread but I hope everyone knows there's only 5% nickel (clad) in a nickel. The rest is copper. I'm a numismatist.

Wrong, US nickels are 25% nickel 75% copper and have been since they were first issued in 1866.

It's the only US coin still circulating that hasn't been changed: FALSE

penny in 1983 from copper to zinc

dimes, quarters, halves and dollars in 1965 from silver to Cu-Ni clad

small clad dollar coins starting in 1979

as a numismatist you should know this, unless you were referring to some other country (Canada's nickels are now plated steel)

if not, invest in a US coins red book and don't use words you don't understand!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78554447

I should know coin comp percentages because I said I'm a numismatist? Numismatics is broad. With coin grading to be the most popular aspect.

And yes the nickel did change, from 1942 to 45. But I'm sure you already knew that and were too busy bashing me to lay down a correct statement.

Well don't announce things aren't true in a condescending "I hope everyone knows" tone

I tried to inform with correct information and didn't mention war nickels because that was over 70 years ago

It's all in the red book

But yes, you are surely the better, superior person

Have a nice day

Re: ATTENTION GLP Preppers and Metal Freaks Alike! START Saving Your Pennies and Nickels! Here's Why.
Before they removed the pennies in Canada back in 2013 I picked up a few 25$ box from banks.

I would then proceed to pick all the 98% copper one and return the zinc and steel one.

I did that for a few months and I managed to get myself 4 box of copper penny.

I still have them today. 4 boxes of them, or 10,000 98% copper pennies.

I loved coin hunting, I found a few oddity in my search and some really old one.

OK here's what to save:

Why tell people, less for us! I have been doing this for a few decades. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Please remove this thread!

Where I am at, I still can get $500. boxes of halves, $100.00 boxes of nickels, $25 boxes of pennies, this will cause a run and us "fart smellers"...I mean us "smart fellers" will have LESS to source. One bank has already shut me down.

We would need a good leader who knows the enemy and is willing to fight them to the death
And that leader might revalue coins but not to the point of making counterfeiting logical.
So a strong man will revalue the coins as an emergency fucking of the ptb, but, again they will fight like vipers just like they did when Germany told them to fuck off. VIPERS

To EVERYONE who "called me out" for stating nickels 2014 or earlier, I was only going on info I had based on "Coinflation's" data.

I stand corrected.

EVEN 2022 nickels are worth the same as the 2014s.

It wasn't a purposeful misleading. It's was based on the information I use regularly, and was just passing it on to the people of GLP who need a break everywhere they can find one.

ALL nickels ($1.00 (20)) are worth about $1.69-$1.73 currently.

My apologies if I caused any MAYHEM in anyone's life according to the barrage of red karma I received.

I STILL stand by my thread title, SAVE your pennies and nickels!

So you want to hedge inflation a bit?

When you go to the bank, ask for a few dozen rolls of nickels in place of the worthless paper they're printing "to infinity" these days.

They're worth more than 50% of their face value in melt alone.

82 and earlier pennies are worth more than 3Xs their face price in melt value (although they're a LOT harder to find in bank rolls these days.

Do what what you will with the info I provided.

I absolutely did NOT mean to mislead ANYONE. I was ONLY trying to help.

Hope I did!

The dollar bill is worth a nickel by 1946 standards.
