Not nearly as fun as getting silver back from a cashier who doesn’t know what silver money is worth. I love spending 10$ on groceries and walking away 10$ better. |

START Saving Your Pennies and Nickels! Here's Why. You get a 50/50 chance on the 1982 pennies as that was the year they shifted over to the shitty zinc pennies. To be absolutely certain you gotta collect the 1981's and before. If you are gung ho you can weigh the 1982's to be certain, a good trained eye will spot them too pretty accurately as the pure coppers color differently. Here's conflation's comments under the 1982 - 2014 penny The zinc and copper versions of the cent were both produced in 1982. They can be differentiated by weight (3.11 grams for the 1909-1982 copper cent, 2.5 grams for the 1982-2014 zinc cent). |

I have 67 pounds (tare weight because of the container) of pre 82 pennies, and being a GC, I save EVERY scrap of wire and copper tubing (over 200 pounds raw). Quoting: FN 5.7AP I've only been doing nickels for about 6 months, but almost EVERY roll I get from the weekly bank visit yields me more than 50% pre-14! 67 pounds of pennies melted down is currently worth about $280 here in the states. I'm not saying it's not a lot of money... but it's not a lot of money. |

Now if my bank account were all physical before 1982 pennies that would be awesome. The other problem is the person you give it to as payment will lowball you and say no, it’s one cent. |

OK here's what to save: Quoting: FN 5.7AP 1.) ALL pennies 1982 or older (obviously wheat, and Indian Head pennies have a greater numismatic value), but an average 82 or older are 95% copper and 5% zinc. TRASH anything after '82 because it's close to the opposite amalgamation (copper coated zinc). Those '82 pennies are worth $.0307 EACH! Imagine a penny being worth 3 cents! SAVE 'EM FOLKS! 2.) ALL Nickels 2014 and older, because of the increase in the price of nickel recently are worth almost TWICE their face value. $1.00 of these are currently worth $1.73! I find it funny that MOST stores currently have a "change shortage". I think the government is culling as many of these coins as possible, artificially creating this "shortage" while they replace the valuable coins with worthless pieces of SHIT. NOTE: There are only 2 US coins that are not allowed to be melted down. 1 is the penny, the other is the nickel. I smell a rat here. The ONLY saving grace is you're allowed to melt them down for scientific purposes or demonstrations. I will personally be SCIENCING the SHIT out of my neighborhood! Hope this helps if even a bit. Reference: www.coinflation.com (base metal melt value calculation) EDIT for a decimal point error. Pennies (pre 82) are STILL worth 3.07 cents EACH! Once melted how would anyone know? This is how coinage has always worked throughout recorded history. The demand for money is constantly inflating along with the inflation of the population. Eventually the cost to produce coinage increases to the point where the content of the coinage costs more than the face value and the content has to be changed. MlCHAEL |

START Saving Your Pennies and Nickels! Here's Why. I LEARNED FROM MY GRANDFATHER: When the US went off the silver standard he filled his basement with silver coins. Literally, many cubic yards of coins! They sold most of it when silver hit $40/oz approximately a decade ago.. I inherited a small duffle bag full and have saved my pennies and nickels for the past 20 years. I have ten gallons of 1959-1982 pennies, several pounds of wheat pennies, almost 100 steel pennies and about 50 Indian heads- all collected by me over the years. I have all my nickels graded by decade and haven’t bothered to save any past 2000 because I don’t like the new ones. |

Here's Why. These things are extremely heavy and stupid to break your back on. I save all these things, but you need to create either a burial ground for them or a mechanical use for the weight of them. EG: sell all your weights and buy 5' lengths of 3/4" intermediate metal conduit. Nickels are 0.835" in diameter and the IMC is 0.869" innner diameter. Fill it with 5 feet of nickels, cap it to hide them then cinch on a binding cap and no one in their right mind will be trying to steal it. But you yourself know there's at least $500 of nickels, and way more in metal in that bar, and you have a workout bar, or ground rod, or whatever. Other than useful things it is just not worth the weight. You may as well apply for a plumbing or electrical apprenticeship and create relationships to get actual useable wire, or scrap to fiat to silver to gold. Or buy pain pills. People will sell their children to take away pain. HarMegiddo |

Most are out of circulation already. My brother has 55 gallon drums full of them. He just recently sold his candy machine business after 35 years. One reason he got out was not enough copper, nickel or silver shows up in change anymore. That’s where he made most of his money. Have a nice day = GFY. GFY = Go Fuck Yourself. Never happened. The Nickel weighs 5 grams and has been 75% copper and 25% nickel since 1866 (excepting the WW2 years where the Nickel was made from silver from 1942 to 1945). It's the same damn Nickel it's always been. Shielded Nickel went to Liberty Head Nickel went to Buffalo Nickel went to Jefferson Nickel - almost 160years of same nickel (excepting WW2 years). 5grams - 3.75grams of copper 1.25grams of nickel. Same Nickel it's been since 1866. Start pulling them from circulation... they'll go the way of pre65 dimes quarters and half dollars before you know it. |

AT LEAST NOT IN AMERICA! Man I'm gonna love ripping you people off on the other side of this when were trading with coins in mad max world. KNOW YOUR COINAGE PEOPLE! KNOW YOUR F*CKING COINAGE! Good Lord... I'm gonna say this once so pay attention: Pre 1965 dimes, quarters and half dollars are 90% SILVER They've been pulled out of circulation for so long they are impossible to find. If you find one by chance THEN KEEP IT! They are worth far more in silver than they are as change! From 1965 to 1970 they continued to mint HALF DOLLARS at 40% silver instead of 90% - in 1971 they started minted them with zinc. Pre 1982 pennies are 95% copper and are thus 3cents right now - so pull them out to. ALL NICKELS OF ANY YEAR ARE WORTH PULLING - The Nickel has had the same composition since 1866 excepting a 3year period between 1942 and 1945 when they were made with silver - just like the dimes quarters and half dollars were. Know your coins before someone rips your a** off. |
