The king of the south is Satan, his daughter is the harlot in Re:17. The beast is the king of the north. Their witnesses is from when the kings stand up until the day the two witnesses are resurrected. The witness of the two witnesses starts after this verse as it is Satan sitting on a false throne in the 4 days the two witnesses are in the grave:
Da:11:31-32:
And arms shall stand on his part,
and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength,
and shall take away the daily sacrifice,
and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries:
but the people that do know their God shall be strong,
and do exploits.

Mal:4:5-6:
Behold,
I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children,
and the heart of the children to their fathers,
lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Elijah would qualify as 1 of the 24 Elders in the Re:4 Temple and they will have thrones on earth by the end of the same day the two witnesses are resurrected. Before them will stand the while House of Israel, the Eze:37 group that is resurrected from the grave as the last event of the day the two witnesses, the ones that survive the first 6 trumps join them and the Church stops by once a year for a yearly feast of the tabernacles from Zec:14. The lessons being taught to the recently gathered by Jesus and the 24 Elders would be how Temple service goes in a world without sin. The 10 Commandments cover a world in sin, that is why Abel’s offering was accepted, the 1,000 years is when Cain’s offering will be accepted and it will remain that way in the new earth era. The law from Re:21 is the law that covers immortals. What people learn during the 1,000 years (no marriages so the population is a static population) means they remain alive when God sends all sinful immortals, like Satan and the remaining fallen angels, to the fiery lake.
Ezekiel:38 and the Gog war. Ezekiel:38 is for the 1,000 year reign and the 'battle' that comes when Satan and all remaining fallen angels in the Pit are released and joined by the ones whose bones are buried in a graveyard in Israel in Ezekiel:39.

The people that are there at the end of the chapter are the ones at the start of the chapter that complete the 7 year clean-up and the 7 months of gathering some bones and burying them in a special graveyard that has the name Gog attached to it. The bones belong to the 4 fallen angels that manifest into the 200M horsemen and it is by these being that the 12 Tribes are brought down to being just the 144,000. By the evening of the day Jesus returns and kills all sinners the whole House of Israel will be alive and standing in Israel.

If Gog does not exist until 7 years into the 1,000 year reign then they cannot be in a war at the start because part of the vials is the river of blood and that is the death of those angelic horsemen. There are a few clues in Eze:38 that it is the 1,000 years such as Jerusalem is an unwalled city during that time and it is only during that time that the people are living in safety for the first time. An earlier reference to Damascus being part of prophecy that you believe is happening either means you are working off materials somebody has handed you or you missed more than a passage or two of Scripture. The bones of men that dies as part of the return do not have their bones gathered and placed in the City of Gog.

Regarding the king of the north and south, i tend to believe the verse spoken by daniel is relevant to the middle east and the end day war in israel pre 1000 year reign. Maybe turkey king of north, egypt or persia king of south.
