Apophis is still inbound and still expected to pass a paltry 19,000 miles from the earth. For reference, that's about the distance from the center of the earth to outer space. We've taken pictures of the earth from roughly 250,000 miles out, satellites sit right around that distance. NASA has one that sits at right about 20,000 miles. This is a big one, roughly the height of the Eiffel tower, it's a close pass and it's got some serious potential for asteroid doom.

The official line is that it's still going to pass safely and we have had a few big ones pass at that distance and even a bit closer but still, it's going to be one to watch. There was one that passed closely like that before and if I recall it took out a couple satellites but my memory might be deceiving me on that one. Here's NASA's write up on it:
