This RED DAWN clip is worth a rewatch
Just to see how things have changed since the mid 80s.

"Who IS on our side?"

"Six-hundred million screaming Chinamen."

"Last I heard there were a BILLION scream Chinamen."

"There were." (Throws his coffee into the fire, causing it to flare dramatically)

Yea, back then, China would probably have been on our side against the Soviets. No more, though.

It's a movie that was made at the height of "the Russians are evil." Interesting that we've come full circle.

Written by Kevin Reynolds, who wrote FANDANGO, and directed Waterworld, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (the Kevin Costner flick), the EXCELLENT Count of Monte Cristo, and the really good Kevin Costner mini-series Hatfield and McCoys.

China and Russia were always enemies, squabbling over disputed borders in Manchuria. A couple of times in the 50's they almost went to war. They were like Pakistan and India always threatening to fight each other and shooting back and forth at border crossings.

They seemed to have sorted all that out the last few decades. But who knows. They could be right back at it at any time.

I remember being scared watching it as a kid, but now all I can think is ... how and why were Russian cargo planes allowed into U.S. airspace without being shot down?
