When astronomy feared a psychiatrist telling them about the past and banned his books
Most readers are certainly aware of Immanuel Velikovsky, who started his professional life as psychiatrist and psychoanalyst around the time of Sigmund Freud, but then later applied his experience to history, especially in the field of of geology and astronomy. He arrived there after observing psychological markers in ancient written and mythological traditions where he detected hints for a recent catastrophic past, mankind was recovering from on the mental level, similar to an individual suffering with from traumatic amnesia.

Books to start with:
* Earth in Upheaval (1955)
* Worlds in Collision (1950)
* Mankind in Amnesia (1982, his last monograph)

From his purely analytical historian's point of view he saw hints for giant electrical discharges in space between the planets and predicted that Venus is a relatively young and hot planet. I mean with high surface temperature to melt lead. Only years later, this was confirmed by the first probes landing there.

Astronomers reacted in panic to his first book publications and forced Macmillian, the largest academic publisher at that time, to retract it. It became a bestseller then at Doubleday 2 months later.

Carl Sagan was his most prominent opponent and it peaked around 1974 when scholar astronomy introduced "modern" astronomy with black holes, dark matter and all the spooky stuff we are told today.

Contraire! I personally have known several professional Astronomers.

When it comes to progress, they seem to allow variances within a certain tolerance level, but reject out hand without scrutiny anything that is a major variance from their core philosophy and dogma. Pretty much how every science field has always been. Don't rock the boat too much or it is the tower of exile for you.

There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!

For those who haven’t heard about him yet: Back then in 1950 electricity or plasma in space was not known, at least not by most scientists. Only in 1955 radio signals from Jupiter were identified and in 1958 the van Allen belt was discovered. Having a historian talking about electricity in space between the planets and an electrically recently active Venus and then being confirmed by real observation was such a shock for many that they reacted in panic, disbelief and had a traumatic experience themselves now.

Hey, McKracken! Great topic--and one that is dear to my
heart.

I don't know if you were around when I hosted a couple of threads
on Velikovsky...if not, I think you will find it very interesting.

Here are 2 of 4 I did between 2015 and 2020:

Thread: Big UPDATE pg 7!!Part 2. The "Father of Modern Psychology," Carl Jung Kept Planetary "Doom" Secret for 80 years! Update/Warning se
and
Thread: Was it Carl Jung's Dying Wish to Support "Rogue Doom Scientist " Velikovsky with Secret Book? Big Up-date Pg.5! Videos

The research I did into my thread came as a result of
realizing that BIG PHARMA was actively trying to CRUSH
the "talking cures" in psychology and psychiatry with an
all out defamation agenda on the great Analytical Psychologist
--and a personal favorite--Carl Jung. Several mainstream
periodicals RAN WITH IT and I believe they did a good deal
of harm for these disciplines in favor of the current
"chemical bandaide" BIG PHARMA pushes. (This was way way
before Big Pharma came up with the pandemic/vax idea and turned
their wicked research on that area of medicine for MASS
PROFITS instead.)

Digging for info, I was very surprised after reading both the New York Times
and the Psychology Today articles suggesting "Carl Jung
May have had a SECRET PSYCHOSIS"
--that Jung and the at the
time "rogue" psychiatrist Immanuel Velokovsky--had a decades
long close personal friendship which did give him "nightmares"
but hardly any psychosis. This friendship was NOT known even
by his closest family and friends for fear it could damage
his practice--and certainly, BIG PHARMA and the idiots who
took up their torch to run the defamation agenda did NOT
know about it either.

In fact, Jung took to heart some very scary theories which
Velokovsky reported to him in confidence, which he found
very alarming. Jung actually would use a "therapy" on himself
to work through his own reaction to Velokovsky's theories
and PAINTED SYMBOLIC IMAGES of the theories. Jung used
ART to process the ideas to his subconscious--a technique
he often suggested to his patients. Those images, by the
way, were incredibly personal and were certainly NOT something
he wished the public to have access to after his death.

JungzCometLvJoy

The artwork referenced in the 2 threads (above) give folks...some
idea of the "Velokovsky symbolism" Jung would conjur from his
subconscious and were (after his death) included in Carl Jung's "Red Book."

In fact, it is "Red Book" which was used as evidence
by the BIG PHARMA INSPIRED ARTICLES to discredit Jung . His own family didn't even know about the symbolic meanings of many these images and gave the "go ahead" when the anthology
was collected for publication. (I learned this from
several family interviews about their relative which
reflected their total misinterpretation of them! lol!)

If you KNOW what you are looking at--as far as what were
some of Velikovksy's theories--and NOW the theory about
the Solar Micro-nova (which I DO BELIEVE JUNG PAINTED)
--you can see how they might be misunderstood. There are
copies of his paintings in the 2 threads I hosted. Here is
a link to the theory (by Vogt) on the Solar Micro-Nova
just on our doorstep (no wonder Jung painted images to
help his subconscious...I'm still drawing my own!)
Thread: Greatest Secret of the United States, Causes of the Ice Age and Nova,

I indeed missed those as I usually skip threads about Velikovsky as I have read already so much about him. But this is something new. One reason for starting this thread was just to give those readers who haven’t heard the Velikovsky / Sagan / book banning story yet, a chance to see it as it is a great practical example how science sometimes needs those revolutions which aren’t accepted at first, to achieve progress. Even today, the standard model in astronomy sees gravity as primary force in the universe and completely ignores the importance of the much stronger electromagnetic force. Stronger in the sense of force per elementary particle.

About any timeline of the past about when catastrophes happened I would be careful as any large event will mislead any current dating methods. Many book authors like to jump onto a running story, like recently the 10500 BC event. The only known thing is that natural influences in the past were much larger than any man made impact we caused so far on the Earth.

Velikovsky was my favorite writer in the 1980s. There were fools alive then who knew him and produced interesting works of art around his point of view. I think Velikovsky had some pretty good insights? For example, if all people had read his view on collective trauma, maybe they wouldn't have gone to war.

There is a very strong case to be made that Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon and just slightly smaller than Mars, was the first place in our system to be inhabited by modern humans. The historical trail leading up to the Ganymede Hypothesis starts morer or less with Velikovsky.

His books opened my eyes to the past like no other book when it came to ancient stories of disaster and celestial-mechanics.
